When restoring the heater box, what do you do with the mounting studs that stick through the firewall for mounting? Leaving the studs bare would allow them to rust and would look bad.Painting them doesn't seem like it would look right or last well once you ran the nut over the studs. Should the studs be replated and if so what type of plating were they originally?

I think (not positive) they were unplated.  You could hit them with that "natural" look stuff from Eastmans maybe?

Won't clear make them too glossy?  Even if its a matte finish?

Not if you don't wet sand and buff it.

Ghoste

Never saw clear that didn't have some kind of wet look to it but I'm for sure no painter. :icon_smile_big:

clear paint does not seal the same as pigmented paint. If you clear the studs theyll still rust, itll just take longer than if you didnt.

I beleive Ghoste was talking about Eastwood restoration paints and coatings????
wingless now, but still around.
