For a California blue plate on the rear, would it be a different plate than the front so there is a spot for the registration sticker or did they just put it into the correct cornere and front and rear are the same plate?

wonder if 938DAN was the actual plate  for one of the chargers used in the film  :scratchchin:

Oh, that is a very thought provoking question.  Hmmm. :scratchchin: :scratchchin:

I ordered a few plates from the site including an American Graffiti one to put up with my Paradise Road street sign and a DMCL one to go beside the Dutton Flats sign on my wall. :2thumbs:

If it was, none of the real plates made it on screen. Those are all props.

California used one plate style for both sides. They had recesses for the stickers. The front would just have empty recesses. In Hollywood, they make props without the recesses. I have been told by prop makers that they intentionally make the props look different from real. No reflective paints, slightly different paint colors and fonts so the plates are not counterfeits and will be obvious to a policeman in real life, but look realistic on film.

Is that a recent thing though or has it always been that way?

Brock Lee

Yeah, all the way back loosely, but rather strict since the early-mid 60's. The really old ones were usually a piece of wood or Masonite a sign painter would paint by hand.

Just shoot the one that's on your car.  You might want to take it off first.

Good idea, I'll try that.

Or maybe I should shoot the messenger instead.   :icon_smile_big:
