I'm surprised that no one noticed the 68 shifter knob

Even though it might be thought of as a '68 piece, the chrome one has been observed on most (probably not all, however) original/unrestored Daytonas which were built late in the '69 model year - and the early '69s I recall seeing as well.

I could be/ probably am wrong, but it's my understanding that the chrome knob was a 68 item and the only way it got put on a 69 is it being early on in the 69 production run,  sans black door buttons (common).  Sorry, I haven't seen one YET that had the 68 knob. Only the 69.

i can't speak for the other 502 cars, but the daytona sitting here since it was new, came with a chrome knob.

That is the 69 knob  In 68 the knob was completely chrome and was not round.  This car has the 68 knob  The car you referenced has a 69. Nice try

The chrome ones fit 66 to 68 and there were some which appeared in 69 models.  Most 69's and the 70 models got the woodgrain.  (did I get it right held1823?  )

that's what i was thinking, but if i am reading the response above correctly, there are TWO different chrome styles/shapes?

photo A was listed as a metal button, while photo B has a plastic one. but i think they are otherwise identical? both were shown as 1966-68.

photo C does not specify the button material, but seems to be the same knob as both  A and B. it is shown as 1966-69.

no sir. i'm just trying to understand what is different between the knob in this f8 car, versus the knob in dad's. i will have to stop there tomorrow evening, to see if it's plastic or metal.

i know the chrome versus wood knob debate has taken place before, but i never realized there were two different chrome styles. now i've derailed the thread, trying to learn something new.

i doubt the car will change hands from the ebay listing, but the bidding is definitely a shock to the senses.

I think the bidding is extremely interesting, if not shocking.

Here are the last 5 bids:  s***c(private) $79,999 , s***o(121) $82,500, o***t(65) $82,999, g***4(26), $83,000, g***4(26) $83,000.

I am not the eBay expert, and I haven't been able to run this by the person who knows a lot more than me, but there are two things that stand out.  First, not one, but two bids of $xx,999, by two apparently different people or accounts.  Now, if I'm bidding trying to win, I'm going to go maybe $2.78 more than any even $1,000, not $1.00 less.  The second very interesting thing is that o***t(65) was outbid two days later by $1.00.  I am wondering if somebody can explain how that happened.  The only thing I'm thinking is possibly a reserve of $83,000?  Which, if true, means that g***4(26) hit the reserve with an unknown bid, and then came back and bid again at an even higher bid.  So the sale price of $83,000 would mean that g***4(26) would have paid more, but nobody else came along to bid.

Also, on eBay, if g***4(26) backs out, and there is no sale, the only effect that I know of is that the sale price to eBay is not charged and g***4(26) would possibly have a non-paying bidder strike against them.  Which, when reading the eBay agreement there is no penalty until there are an "excessive number" which is undefined by eBay.  Also, the following is part of the eBay user agreement:  "For motor vehicles and real estate, a bid or offer initiates a non-binding transaction representing a buyer's serious expression of interest in buying the seller's item and does not create a formal contract between the buyer and the seller."  So if they both (or either one apparently) decided not to create a formal contract after the auction end, there seems to be no penalties.

So bid what your willing to pay and then go look at it ? Messed up.
Never been a big ebag fan. Its a good way to advertise, but thats it.
