Amazing to me that someone Rotisserie restored one of these in the first place, but anything is possible.   Just needs a Mustang II to race against and it'd be good to go.

I think it looks mint as it should with that kind of work involved....however I doubt they will get 20K.

It is a great color and an interesting car too.  I remember that issue of MCG that featured it.  I don't think 20k is out of line for it, he may have to be patient to find someone else who thinks that and is actually in the market for one of those but the car is too nice to give away.

69rtse4spd

Nice car, wife had a 76, /6. The car had its issues, but the body had 0 rust, anywhere.

TUFCAT

I've known of this car for years since I first saw it at the Mopar Nats about 15 years ago.

It was owned by someone in Ohio and was a trailer queen when I first saw it ....then it was sold to somebody in Wisconsin who drove it.

It may have been  bought and sold a few times since then because I've seen it on eBay and other places. Its a shame whoever bought it drove it like this because it was treated to a brand new car restoration.  The obvious mileage, deterioration, and depreciation have added up since then.  It also had the original rallye wheels and 14" Goodyear white letter tires when I first saw it.   This car was once "new in the wrapper" and probably nicest Volare restoration at that time (maybe the best in the country) with lots of unconditional, no expense spared love and cash.   I recall specifically that there was nobody who had the Jamaica blue stripes reproduced when it was restored, so those are NOS stripes.

No market for these cars even in parts. Brother has had a NOS trunk floor and wheel houses for sale off and on for years along with other volare/aspen NOS metal. No buyers. Only thing that sold quick was a grill NIB and the road runner flare stuff.

myk

That.....actually looks pretty damn good...

Ghoste

Very limited interest for sure but I stll think 20k is not a lot of money for this car.

I wish I still had my '78 Aspen R/T yet. But talk to Jackie's daughter Shelby. She owns a '78 Super Coupe that needs restoring ;)

Agreed. $20K is right on for the level of restoration. Good to see someone driving this thing. Many times on here, we hear bout how trailer queens That aren't driven.

Wow, that is a very nice F body.  :o

$20k is probably worth the restorsion level it is at and as much as I like F bodies, I'd still have a hard time signing that check.

JB400

Pull the 318 out and shove in a 360 or a 408, and there'd be no regrets on writing that check. :coolgleamA:

Ghoste

What does a driver F-body go for?  Not junk, not perfect but a good car that runs.

1970Moparmann

So you guys are saying a perfect original or great restoration late 70"s B Body is also worth up to $20K?   I don't see it.

Recently there was a  BEAUTIFUL 79 Magnum GT that had 12,000 miles that was on Ebagger that sold for $12k.  I think the value probably was right on to even a little higher at 15k.   The good and bad of it, a late B body on a great day would be hoovering around $10k and I can't believe a F body would be far off of that.

I can't see this one being worth close to $20k especially with a 318.

$15k if you happen to get a buyer that has a real hard-on for the car. Otherwise, I think we're talking $12K tops.

I think its more of, if you look at the car for the work put into it...20k is cheap.

If you find someone who likes this style car, and wants a turn key zero issue ride...than 20k might not be SUCH a stretch. But i agree, a 340-360 would sure sweeten the deal.

JB400

The only way anything is really worth anything is if someone else is willing to pay for it.  If someone is willing to pay $20k for this car, $45k on that jalopy on 2 threads now,or $500k on a hemi cuda convertible, than it's safe to assume that is what they're worth.   I'll just laugh at you and think your nuts. :hah: :hah: :hah:    :smilielol: :smilielol:

HPP

I've seen very nice Super Coupes or Kit Cars in the $12-15k range. These are certainly more rare than the Road Runner, but they were not finished as nicely as this one. I would love to have this car, but I probably wouldn't pay more than $12k for it. Yes, ultimately if someone wants it bad enough, they find a way. I suspect that it will not sell and we'll see it relisted in 30 days at a sligthly lower price. At this time, only the seller knows their bottom line. Maybe its $15k, maybe its $18k. If anything, Ebay has shown that there are lots of sellers out there that are dreamers. At this point, this may be one of them, but we don't know.

PocketThunder

Is that hose painted blue from the water pump to the intake?  Was it that way from the factory?  If not why would they paint the hose?   :shruggy:
"Liberalism is a disease that attacks one's ability to understand logic. Extreme manifestations include the willingness to continue down a path of self destruction, based solely on a delusional belief in a failed ideology."

Ghoste

It's definitely blue.  It very well could be one that was installed prior to paint, they did try to dress them as much as possible.

JB400

It would be just one less item that they'd have to put on in the final assembly line.  That's why they had the engine guys put it on and painted it when they painted the whole engine.

sorry, the nicest one i have ever seen was for sale by RK motors in Charlotte a while back, it was a spitfire orange front runner, it was done to the level of a hemi cuda! it made this one look like a beater.

TUFCAT

That's correct! The water pump bypass hose was painted blue on 318's back then. I know because we had one.  :yesnod:

HPP

Road Runner and R/T flare kits are being reproduced now days.  I'm not sure if F body performance models were tracked by VIN  like earlier performance models, but it is possible to dress up any old F body to look like a performance model.

Drop a 408 inch small block in em and swap out ther rear and they can be as quick and fast as the preferred 66-72 model year cars.

Leave off the body kits and still put in the 408= sleeper. Who'd expect a Mirada or a later bird or even a Magnum that'd leave some rubber behind?

Ghoste

Its too bad Chrysler wasn't in better shape at the time so that they could do proper development on these things.  Between that and the abysmal quality control they really hurt what should have been a great vehicle.

nh_mopar_fan

If it was worth all of $20K, it's a steal now at $18k.  ;)

Ghoste

Perhaps it is.  But he will still have to be patient just as I said before.

It does look nice but almost too nice you know?  Like a retouched photo.  Not accusing just saying thats how nice the pic looks.

JB400

I will agree that is a nice car.  However, considering the amount of detail that some people pay attention to, I doubt it if they retouched the photos.  It is kinda rare to see someone do that good of a job on one of those, but anybody would go that far if the car had sentimental value to them. :2thumbs:

Retouching and a little creative filtering are pretty standard fare for those kinds of setups.   It's basically a professional studio with perfect lighting to accentuate all the lines (and flaws if there are any) of the car.   Photography can hide a lot of ugly if you let it.   A 10 foot car could be made to look like a Concours car if you wanted it to.

That said, it is a really nice car.   It doesn't exactly make the blue one look like a 'beater' but I see what you meant :)

GM had a mole inside the Chrysler design studios.  Thats why the rat bastards gave the 68 Corvette so many of the 68 Charger styling cues.

HPP

There are some similarities.  The mopar has smaller windows and more A body style accents and rounded wheel openings. The Nova is pretty slab sided with flat top wheel openings. The front bumper/nose and rear roofline profiles are similar though.
