Robocop Remake - Doesn't Seem Like 25 years

It seems odd that Hollywood can run out of ideas so fast that movies that don't seem that old are being remade already. Well, okay, it is 25 years old now, but Robocop just doesn't "feel old" enough to be remade. I guess I'm older than I thought I was.   :smilielol:

http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/robocop-suit-revealed-first-photo-remake-163723915.html

I loved the original & hope that the remake does it justice, not like what that Planet of the Apes flick that Mark Wahlberg was in did, that one sucked.   ::)

The new one already looks like they cheaped out with the cyborg suit. It's smaller & looks like it's made of rubber & not metal. I suppose I can live with a leftover Batman suit on the super hero if the movie is good.

The cast looks cool......

The remake also stars Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

This makes me feel old. I actually remember when that movie came out. My uncle - who was only a few years older than me - was talking it up for weeks before it came out, so when it finally hit the theaters someone took us to see it. I thought the robot stuff was cool, but didn't get the humor (I was like 7...). It was on TV last night, and now that I'm older I get a lot of the jokes (6000 SUX!).

either way, hope they don't botch this remake...

That suit might be a lot of things, but I doubt it was any cheaper.  Modern Hollywood does not cut corners on the costume of their lead character like that.  They probably deemed the original too cheesy-looking and mimicked the Nolan Batman look to lend it credibility.

bull

Michael Keaton? Haven't seen his face on the big screen for like, three years or so.

Brock Lee

I don't believe that is the actual Robocop suit. I believe that is officer Alex Murphy in SWAT gear. Robocop will look similar to this, but larger and with areas of the torso you can see through showing hydraulics and such. The idea is the Robocop is made to resemble fellow officers in tactical gear. f you think back to the original, the cops wore futuristic gear and Robocop had some basic elements of those designs (like the helmet/shields)

c00nhunterjoe

Its the suit, but I bet CGI will be added to "enhance" it post production.

Remakes suck, too bad they can't come up with something original. Whatever happened to talented people, people like Clint Eastwood for example...

Well, I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt for being worthwhile since I've seen a few remakes that were very good. I do wish more original ideas would develop, but that's the way it is.  :shruggy:

Remakes I liked were.....
King Kong The one  from 2005 with Jack Black and Adrien Brody, not the 70's one.
True Grit Jeff Bridges was great.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers The original scared the s**t of of me as a kid, but the remake was good even though it didn't scare me when I was older & in high school.
The Fly The remake might have sucked without Jeff Goldblum.
I am Legend I didn't see the original, but I saw the remake of it so this one is a remake of a remake.    It wasn't exactly the same story, but close enough, even though The Omega Man was also great. (Maybe a little cheesy now.)

It's the huge movie budgets that cause all these remakes.

The higher the budget, the less they wanna risk it on untested material.  Unsuccessful remakes hardly ever lose as much money as unsuccessful all-new shows.

I remember being blown away by how swoopy the lines were on the Ford Taurus cop cars.   Those things really looked odd back in the mid 80's, which is exactly the reason they used them.

Also, his primary weapon better be the Auto 9 or I call BS on the whole thing.

As long as ED 209 blasts the guy outta the high rise I'm good!

As dated as the movie may be, I think the Robocop suit stood the test of time pretty well, it still looks cool.

What was the tagline on that again?  Half man, half machine, all cop?
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

the other thing I read was that script calls for a lot of add-ons/modifications to the suit as the story progresses, so this may be an early version of the suit (per the movie's timeline).

The original Robocop was based (and filmed) in Detroit.  I wonder if it will be in the remake?  :scratchchin:

Detroit would be a perfect backdrop for a apocolyptic movie! It's already a wasteland!!

I had a tough time sitting through that movie & never did see the whole thing. There were a few funny scenes, but it was definitely not one of Mel Brooks' better flicks. I still don't understand why he waited so long to make a spoof on Star Wars, it was 10 years between the two.  :shruggy:
