FYI:  Somebody is turning out 1005.8 c.i. bb chevy engines. 5.22 bore 5.88 stroke  2,150hp@ 8000rpm 1,500 lb ft of torque@ 6000rpm
There's one going in a car in Australia that is a little more tame 1,700+ hp that's going in a street car.
I read it in Popular Hot Rodding on news stands now!

skip68

Wow!  8,000rpm sounds crazy for a motor that size.   Is it a custom block?

Remember when 500 cube Pro Stock engines were called Mountain Motors?

JB400

Yeah, I remember when 500 was considered big.  And yes, it is a custom all aluminum block.  Those numbers were on a naturally aspirated block running 116 racing fuel.  Don't quote me 100% because I don't have the issue, but I believe they said the complete engine is 8 in. wider than a regular bb chevy.   Just imagine what this engine would make supercharged, and then try to put it on the street.  It'd look real good poking out the hood of a Volt :nana:

six-tee-nine

Nice engine for tractorpullers
Greetings from Belgium, the beer country

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Sonny Leonard Racing...First out with 1000 Plus C.I. Engine. Of course, it ain't cheap....At close to $100K, It better be badass.

100k and no warranty  Too bad if it drops a valve or throws a rod on the first pass.

I say not streetable if it requires 116 octane gas.... :rotz:

Ghoste

A lot of street legal cars aren't really streetable though.  You don't pack 1000 cubes under the hood to take the family 6 hours away to the cottage or even to go across town for milk.  Its a single purpose powerplant. :D

JB400

They used the 116 just to get the 2150 hp mark.  I'm sure the lower performance version of this motor could run on a lower octane level.  But technically, this motor is more for bragging rights anyway. Kinda like having a hemi compared to guys running 383's and 440's.

if it took pump gas 93 thats readily available YEAHZ YEAHZ.....

No company gives warranty on racing engines.

440

Exactly, so if something fails and you know it wasn't your fault 100k is a lot to lose. Of course it depends on the failure but if it's as catastrophic as a rod kiss your 100k goodbye.

This kinda reminds me of Dodge Viper owners complaining that the car's factory alignment settings make it eat up tires every few thousand miles.

If you can afford to blow $100K on a motor like that, then you should be able to afford to lose that money if you break it.

Sonny has one in his 1957 Chevy Pro Street car. Fuel Injected. Runs on 87 Pump gas, and makes over 1100 Hp. Sweet set up. Didn't really like his at first because uncle kinda knew him back in the day, but since getting to know him better through work, he's truly a self made man. Built the first "Mountain Motor" round these parts and ain't looked back since.
