Could a failed MSD display symptoms similar to a bad ballast resistor?

Ghoste

No one?  How about any other components outside of the ballast itself?

JB400

Never had a bad MSD.  Haven't met anyone with one yet either.  Doesn't mean they don't go bad. :2thumbs:

Ghoste

I know at least one person who one fail but his began to operate erratically which is not the symptom I am having.

Most times many of the Failed MSD boxes I've ever seen were due to installer error.(Wired improperly/Not enough volts causing overheating of electronic components, such as running the stock BS Mopar Alternator with the original Mechanical VR.)..MSD as well as other electronics do not Like Voltage spikes when the regualtor decides to charge.
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

Its been working fine for several years so installer error isn't it and it doesn't answer the question anyway really.  And I had an electronic regulator way before the MSD came in.

Why are you running the ballest resistor with msd?

What are your symptoms

Ghoste

I'm not running a ballast resistor.

JB400

Sounds like your box just went bad.  Just go home and do your chores for a week, save your allowance, and get one in a week or so.  There just won't be any candy, comic books, or hanging out at the movies for a week.

Or send it back to MSD.  Their repair policy is pretty good.

Whatever puts your ride back on the road. And whatever you can afford. :2thumbs:

The particular ride I'm talking about in this case is going to be for sale shortly so cheap is the order of the day.
