Wheels and tires for tuners

Quick question and forgive my naivete, but in the tuner world is it a cool thing for the rims to be too wide for the tires?  You know, wide enough that the sidewall slopes noticeably inward towards the tread?

Hemidog

Definitely, I see it on a lot of german cars. There seems to be a competition on how narrow of a tire you can fit on a rim over here...

Mr Wheel, say hello to Mr. Curb  :nana:

If they even knew how hard that was on tires/wheels/suspension/etc. they'd take them off..Not to mention the ROYAL PITA to mount. Ever tried to get a 70 series tire on a 10" rim? I have, and it sucks...

Not to mention the extreme negative camber guys, do they know that tires cost money?

Yeah, it's a new trend with the tuner/import crowd. Why? I have no clue. There's also the negative camber thing that a lot of them are doing (which makes no sense whatsoever in street car). But hey, whatever creams their twinkie...

It's a craze in Japan:

I take it the cambered, duct taped flare piece of junk does not have to worry about air pressure in his tires!! wtf is so cool about looking like a rolling wreck!??  :shruggy: :icon_smile_blackeye: Oh well to each his own I guess...
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Hemidog that is exactly the look I was talking about and it was a German car that made me ask the question. :smilielol:

I didn't think it could get much worse with those guys.  Boy was I wrong.   :o

Let me guess, they are trying to see what their car would look like if picked up by a helicopter, took up 500 ft, and then dropped.  I'm surprised that 91 Caravan in another thread hasn't been given that treatment.

OMG!  :faint:   I'd like to explore inside their heads to see if they have any brains.
Are these cars actually drivers? How can they possibly be road worthy!   :image_294343:

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Its a stupid craze but yes sadly its big in the German world as well  :-\

Basically they want the widest rim possible but need to camber it in to get the "hella flush" look, where the rim lip just sits inside the fender. Personally i hate it, i like rims that sit in the fender and that have a nice meaty tire.

I do run some negative camber on the e30 (-2.5 front and rear, would run more if i didnt drive it when im off) but its not for being hella flush, its for making sure on turns that im getting as much of the tire to be on the ground as possible.

As with many of the tuner crazes, this one seem to be stupid as well..Nothing new here, move along. We've already wasted WAY too much time on these tards. Those mods will get them killed one day and the rest of the God fearing automotive world will be done with them soon enough.

So the extreme camber thing aside, whats the idea with the rim too wide for the tire look like the photo in the second reply to this thread?  Is that just a variation on the theme?  They aren't trying to emulate something else with that look are they, its just something one niche of the hobby think looks cool?
