1970 plymouth police package

I'm looking at a 1970 belvedere sedan and the guy says its an old police car. Does anybody have any info on how to authenticate this? Any fender tag codes?

I don't know if there is a fender tag code or not but most of the cop cars from Mopar came with the HD brakes and suspnsion.  That alone wouldn't prove it one way or th eother but it does provide a clue.  One question for the guy might be which police dept?  I think a small municipality would be likely to order almost anything but a State Trooper car or a cruiser for a larger fleet would be more likely to order from the emergency vehicle packages.

  Not sure on fender tag codes, but there are a few "cop" telltale signs to look for: 150 mph speedo with small letters that read "certified" under the needle, an A/C cutout switch, labeled as such, usually under the dash to the right of the column. Disc brakes up front, or  finned drums. Larger amp alternator, HD cooling, etc.
  Like Ghoste stated, depends on how it was ordered and by whom. My experience has been that none of the local PD's or state agencies got frugal with the Police units until the mid 80's. My 72 Fury has A/C and a 400TQ (small town city Police), my 78 Monaco was a 440TQ (state Trooper) and my 88 Diplomat (big city PD) was a 318 Q-Jet. I do have another Dippy from the same city PD that was a 318 2bbl.
  The copcars are a whole 'nother world! I find them really cool. All sorts of sneaky things too. My old Fury has tail and brake light cut out switches!
Oh, yeah. Every one had the inner door handle rod disconnected from the inner door handle.

If it was ordered as a police car the VIN will begin RK.

If it was a fleet order for police use, they could have used a different model, but the tag would still indicate a special order in most cases.

It would have been built at the Lynch Road plant so there should be an "A" in the VIN.
It is likely the VON starts with a J

 didn't the 68 -70   have rear sway bars too  , or might just have been one of the years

Thanks for the responses, every bit of info helps. The belvedere is a local car I'm thinking about. Here's a picture of the car. Owner said its an old police car bought at auction. 318, holley, aftermarket intake and cam,headers, dual fowmasters. runs and drives. Clean title with minimal rust.  He wants 4k. I'm tempted to offer him maybe 3-3.5k
But I want to make sure its actually a cop car and not a civilian plymouth.

If it is a true 1970 cop car then it was built at the Lynch Road plant (A in the VIN. No cop cars from the 'E' LA or 'G' STL plant) and will not have a bunch of F codes. (LR didn't code that much to begin with. Later cop cars from other plants may have a bunch of F codes)
Here is a picture of an RK41 tag. The tags on the cars in question will look similar. Look for a K2** interior code. It is likely the cop cars have a J in the VON.

I asked for some vin and tag pictures but no repsonse yet.. He said it was a old detective car so who knows it may not be a actual police package. Hell even if its just a regular old plymouth it still would make a great cruiser.
