Took a nice 15 minute video in the '69 yesterday. Edited it down to 3 and a half minutes so as not to bore you to death....hahaha. its a crude camera mount but it worked. Video was taken with all 4 windows down. Just a fun cruise on some of my windy backroads around my neighborhood.

The camera rig.

Clever setup.  Cool vid too.  I made one once holding the camera and it turned out about the way you would expect.  I may have to try it again the way you did it because I sure have intent on buying one of those stick on setups.

Nice ride around some really quiet countryside! There just aren't any roads that desloate around here ! Enjoyed it.

c00nhunterjoe

I plan to eventually get one of those gopro cameras with a suction mount. I can then do inside and outside veiws of the car and the cameras are so small I can put it on one of my flat cars for a point of view trip around my train garden.

I have a good mix of congestion and countryside within minutes of each other. Hell, I even have dirt roads still!

Ghoste

Oh I fully appreciate the utility of the gopro, I just can't justify buying one for the amount I would use it.   Hmm, then again, if you had it you might find more cause to use it....

Are those puddles you're driving through?

No puddles. There were some parts of the road that were still wet from showers in the morning.

Very cool!  There just aren't many videos out there showing some good ol' 4 speed action and your setup worked great.

btw, what gears are you running?

c00nhunterjoe

Its not my best shifting, but its as good as my trans will give. It needs a rebuild, burnt the syncros out running gl-5 gear oil. Switched to 85w140 and it is usable for now.  I'm running 4.30 gears with a 275\60\15 tire.

She actually slid the rear out on the 2-3 shift at the 2:45 mark.....lol. it runs really good for being an engine that breaks all the rules.

Homerr

Ok, the 4.30 gears make sense now.  I'll eventually be buying a 4 speed Charger and was thinking this was much more 'rowing' through the gears than the one time I drove a 4 speed car about 20 years ago.  I'd like a car with 3.23 or 2.73 for highway cruising.

Dino

Cool vid, thanks for sharing.

Not exactly a short throw shifter is it?   :icon_smile_big:

I too was wondering what gears you were running as my 440 doesn't pull out like that anymore.  Installing the 2.96 gears made it superb to cruise or do highway but took much of the spark out of launching the car.  Still faster than those ricers out there though.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Johnnys440Charger

Cool Video.   I am gonna try that setup this weekend using duck tape.  :-)

c00nhunterjoe

Don't let the 4.30's fool you. Its a very good engine/gear/tire combo.  My 383 is a fast revver and the cam likes higher rpm. Its very cruise friendly but its like you flick a switch when the tach passes 3,000. Now granted I won't be doing 100 mph on the highway but I will do 65 without problems.  The car skips off the cam at 1600 or lower so I  stay at 2000 or better to enjoy a drive.

I had my car radar verified to my tach since the speedo is way off.  In 4th gear, 2000 rpm is 40mph, 2500 is 50mph, 3000 is 60mph, 3500 is 70mph, 4000 is 80mph, 4500 is 90mph, 5000 is 100 mph, 5500 is 110mph. We stopped there as I couldn't safely get anymore speed in the 1\4 with shutdown room. As is, 110 was just past the traps(car normally goes 104-106 in the 1\4). On long trips up north I will stick the gps on the windshield for a speedo but it has never varied.

On the highway 60mph is comfortable. The engine isn't screaming and there is no drone in the cabin. 65 is the limit of comfort. 70 mph the engine starts to get "noisy" and doesn't have that cruising sound anymore. Most of the above video was 45-50 mph, slower in the hard turns of course.

The shifter is a good throw.....lol. its th factory hurst comp with a neat handle out of a 68 charger. I will have to post a pic. The hurst markings are different from what I am used to seeing.  I rebuilt the shifter, its nice and tight but my linkage bushings are shot, and by shot I mean basicly not there...... so if I ever get around to replacing them with the solid bushings it should tighten up a good bit more.

Really, enjoyed your video!  :2thumbs:  Hard to find those unpopulated roads here in Northern California.

It was great!  I've never seen a speed in action. Good times.    :2thumbs:
