I found a 1970 Dealer Ad with my car in it. This just keeps getting better.

While back in ND, I decided to start looking through the microfilm archives of the local papers.
I know from the MSO that my car was sold new in Mandan ND.
Mandan Chrysler Plymouth was a small dealership and I believe my car was the only Superbird
sold there.
I was stunned to find this ad in the Mandan Pioneer.

It was a full half page.

Very cool.   We should all hope to find our cars in the newspaper.

The photo looks professionally taken given the angle.
Next step is to see if I can track down information about
the photo shoot.  It was very unusual for Mandan Chrysler
Plymouth to run ads of any kind.  This must have been
a special circumstance.

This just keeps getting better.
A trip back to the North Dakota Heritage Center yielded more results.
Amazingly, they found an original issue of the newspaper in which the
ad with my car ran!!!  They scanned it into a jpeg file and now I can
have it reproduced in actual size for framing.  The photo is much clearer.

And, I found Al Wald's car in a similar ad in the Bismarck Tribune.

A close up of the ad with Al's car in it.
Note the display Road Runner on the roof.
Anyone have one of these?

Also in the Jan 9th, 1970 Bismarck Tribune was this full page ad for a sale by the Bismarck dealership.
The Bismarck and Mandan dealerships were owned by the same people/dealer group.

The person who made the scans for me at the Heritage Center told me he worked across the street
from the Mandan dealership when the cars were new.  He remembered the car being on display.
AND!!!  He pointed out that the photo of my car was not taken at the Mandan dealership.  It was taken
at the Bismarck dealership even though my car was assigned to the Mandan dealership.  He knew this
because the view out the window behind my car would have been where he worked - at a creamery and
it isn't there.  So we looked closer and you can see the tip of the nose of Al's car in the photo of my car.
They put them both in the Bismarck showroom for the photo shoot.

Check out 'stevenjuliano.com'    He has a few of those stand up road runners in his vast collection.
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Redbird

Anyone could buy one of the plastic 2 piece Road Runners at their local C/P dealership. They were advertised in issues of "Plymouth Traveler" magazines in 1971 (The free promotional magazine C/P dealers sent out to previous customers and prospects) along with the fake fur coyote pelts. I have lots of issues of "Plymouth Traveler Magazines and the price and promotions offered in it seem quite reasonable compared to what things sell for now. The 2 piece plastic stand up Road Runners have a place where they crack if kids played with them too much, which is one of the reasons you don't see too many left around today.

How are you guys searching the newspaper archives?
I tried doing that and can't seem to find a site that I don't have to pay a monthly fee for.
Would like to see if I can fill in some history on my car.
I know it's a long shot but still would be cool to find an ad for the car.

The papers I am looking through are not digitized yet so I am looking at microfilm archives held by the state and local libraries.  I can only do a couple hours at a time before I get dizzy lol.
