I've gone through 7-8 pages and can't find this. My gauge reads about 1/2 to 5/8 of a tank when full. I grounded the wire to the sending unit and turned the key on, gauge went to full (shut off right away,no want to fry this). This would indicate the sender or possibly float...correct?
God must love stupid people....he made a sh**load of 'em....

Yes, you need more current thru the gauge = less resistance value in the sender. It seems the gauge and sender are working but just needs a little adjustment.
You might be ok with just bending the float arm in the right direction.
