Been thinking for awhile about getting one of these, wife and myself, did some search for reviews and am coming up with a 50/50 mix.The ones who liked it say best ever and def recommend, then others are saying comments such as "glorified air mattress",sleep number controls go all over the place without touching controller, etc.
Anyone here have one to share your opinions?????Thanks

twodko

Same same here as far as what I've heard. A buddy loves his and others say air mattress. Others say the Temperpedic mattresses are the way to go. SleepNumber beds are less expensive than dense foam mattresses which are hideously expensive. Some say the Temperpedic matresses don't "breath" so you tend to sweat.

A lot of these bed outlets advertise free 90 day trial....if you don't like it they take it back. there's got to be fine print in these offers thought.  :shruggy:

Some hotels/motels use these beds (probably every brand is used somewhere). Make a few phone calls and see where you can spend an enlightening night out.  :icon_smile_wink:

I love my Tempur-Pedic. People always cry about them being too hot and they can be, unless you aren't bright enough to take some of the covers off. :slap:

elacruze

We've had one for ten years now, still love it as much as ever. We bought a Tempur-pedic for our daughter and though it is very comfortable it was very hot-maybe not so big a deal up north but it S. Florida it's just too hot to deal with. Our SN bed has never needed any work or maintenance, although now it needs a mattress cover-it holds all the guts in and it's separating and letting the sides pooch out over the frame.
Never had any issues with the pump, controllers, leaks, nothing. Just great all the time.

I think it was about $2700 with the motorized frame, and it was money well spent.

Wife and I have a kingsize Latex mattress. Best investment we ever made. We've had it for over 10 years now and it's as good as new. They're a little bit pricey to buy but in the long run it works out cheaper because you don't have to replace them as often as a regular mattress.

Have had the sleep number bed for ten years, love it. Really like to dual controls so the wife and I can have a different firmness for each side. The support frame is just a plywood box I built instead of spending $500.00 on their box. Also if you buy one at your local sleep number store you'll pay top dollar. I called the factory sales line, bought direct from the factory, not sure if you can still do that. We have a queen size with the pillow top, paid around $700-800, but that was ten years ago.

Yes, they really are a glorified air mattress, but you can adjust them remotely and seperatly from side to side. Combine that with the cloth cover, pillow top option, and the various covers that are available and it isn't exactly like the old pump up Coleman mattress from the tent camping days.
I've got one and yes, it is very nice to have. I've found I tend to change the pressure in my side from time to time as the level of physical labor varies, but that is a cool change comapred to have a non-adjustable mattress.

c00nhunterjoe

Love mine. Its 15 years old with no problems.  Get the nice pillow top option and the digital controller.

The free 90 day trial IS a bunch of BS. My wife's friend worked at one of the big mattress chain stores & was able to get us one of those memory foam mattresses with her store discount. It saved us about $500 if I recall, so we ended up paying about $900. She said the "free" trial was free except for the $400 return & restocking fee. The reason was that they can't legally resell a used mattress so they are allowed to charge this BS return & restocking fee.   ::)

Reminds me of the triple edge wiper blades they used to advertise on TV with the "FREE LIFETIME REPLACEMENT IF YOU AREN'T SATISFIED OR THE WIPER BLADES  EVER FAIL!!" I saw them in the store & read the return policy on the package that said "Please include $6.95 for shipping & handling of the free replacement blades"  :smilielol:

Had one for two years, best investment I've ever made.   I have a horrible back and it improved almost immediately.  Had a Tempur-Pedic before that and for all the money it cost, it wound up being too soft.   Hard to justify returning and replacing it for a firmer one, because it really takes a couple of weeks to figure out if a bed is really the right one.

With the sleep number, sometimes my back is really stiff and I soften it up, other times I pump it up a little till it feels right.   Can't do that with any other mattress.

As for the comment about the controls being all over the place without anyone touching them, that problem is pretty minimal.   The gauge measures air pressure, which is higher when you're laying on the mattress obviously.    Sometimes my wife will be half on my side when I set it, so the next night it's 'off'.   It's really no big deal though.  Takes two seconds to adjust it back.

I would say to get the highest level you can afford.   The entry level ones seem attractive but they felt a bit cheap to me.   Also, they have a mattress pad that wicks away heat, and it really works.   Mine feels like a regular bed.

Lastly, the person who said 'call the factory' is right.   I got a quote and a demo in a store, then wound up calling the factory and got an upgrade to almost the top tier bed they make plus a mattress pad for 200 bucks less.

The people who are saying 'glorified air mattress' are probably the same people who complain that a 20 oz coke costs the same as a 2 liter.   Cheap-asses.   I could care less if the company made $2,999 profit on the $3K I paid.  It works.

I would certainly agree with this.  I have a mid level unit and it is very nice. One beef I do have with it is that the adjustment is in increments of 5 (pounds?) So sometimes the difference of 5 can actually feel like a lot and I wish it incremented in 2.5 intervals. I have learned how to alter the fill part way, but then you do create a somewhat inaccurate adjustment number. Ultimately, it all depends on how it feels to your bod, regardless of the number.

My sleep number is great. I have a really bad back and have had 3 major surgeries with the last being a fusion. Our SN is actually 2 California twins on 2 mechanical/electric pedestals. So our heads and feet are raised how ever you like..  I love the bed except for the (CRACK) between the two mattresses..  It is a must for me, but when it comes to Playtime, it's not the right bed.. Otherwise, I LOVE IT and it is getting old..

1 thing I recommend is buying their pillow top. It makes a HUGE difference...

My number is 50... lol.... My wife's number is 40...... No, you cannot come and try out either!!!! ;)
