Okay, I had thought that the NYC "hiking thread" was more interesting than this one, even though it was considered a "stroll" by some Red Sox fan.

Here are some pics from a place that my wife wanted to go to the day before we went to NYC. She was there before I met her & she wanted to go back, so we all made a day of it. It's called Kaaterskill Falls in the Catskill Mountains in NY. It's one of the highest water falls in New York, but I didn't bring my tape measure & never measured it so I can't confirm that.   :shruggy:

The entry is just off the main road which is narrow & has no parking. We had to go about 100 yards up the road to park, then walk back to it. The first two photos are NOT the falls, it's just the last part of the creek before it passes under the stone bridge for the roadway.

Further up the trail which runs parallel to the creek is the next level. This is NOT the falls either.   You can see people on the rocks in the center of the pic to get an idea how large an area it is.

There are a few locations along the trail that are pretty steep. Some of them have steps built that are wood like this, or stone. That's my daughter Kate just by the steps.  :icon_smile_big:

In other areas the exposed root system of the trees make good steps too.

Now for the falls. The 1st one makes it tough to gauge just how big they are, but there are a few people in the 2nd one.  :o

I would love to be there after a huge rain storm to see how that water is falling. The day we were there it was just a trickle, but in some places you can see large trees laying across the creek & on the rocks that were washed out from where they grew.

This small pool of water is behind the lower of the two water falls.

I didn't see it at first, but my daughter pointed out the rainbow in the upper falls.

Now what would a hike in the wilderness be without a classic car?   :D   Spotted this E-Type Jag in the parking lot that was a little rough around the edges. The leather seats were a little worn, the paint had some scuffs & scratches, & there was dirt & dried mud on the carpet. Guess the owner knows what to do with this one, drive it.

The 2nd pic is from the parking lot. Wish I had a view like this from my deck.

Great pics man! :2thumbs:

Thanks.

Here's a couple more taken with my daughter's camera, which is actually a nicer camera than mine.

And no trick photography here either, I am just as ugly in person as I am in photos.   :smilielol:

Very nice Bob!

That's about a 20 minute drive from me...  more or less.    I drive past the cars parked all over the roads to go up towards Tannersville...  it's on the way to Hunter Mt.   23A is a pretty twisty mountain road up that way.   But in almost 30 years I've never hiked up to the falls.  :shruggy:

Usually I hear at least one person falling off a cliff annually.   Too bad the other year was some high school junior girl that was out with her friends ditching school.  :'(

Yeah Brian, I've also heard that people fall on a regular basis.  :rotz:

There is a sign on the trail right near the base of the falls that warns people about how steep it is, but obviously it doesn't work for some.
