Low mileage Dakota

I was at a friends house today and was looking at his 87 Dakota.  I knew he had it.  He bought it new and drives it very little.  I didn't realize how little, 17,000 miles in 25 years.  Here is the part I was really surprised by.  The truck has had THREE complete repaints.  It's never been in a bad accident but it got dinged here and there and I guess he did it twice to fix minor dings and to change color.  So, how many 25 year old 17,000 mile cars/trucks out there with 3 repaints?

He bought the Dakota to replace his 69 Road Runner which he also bought new.  It had 25,000 miles on it when the garage it was stored in was hit by a truck in about 86 and the car totaled.  There was also a restored 61 Dart in that garage that was also totaled that his dad had bought new then sold to my dad in about 69 then my dad sold it back in about 77.  Two nice old mopars taken out in one shot.

A sad story, for sure.  How does one go to a Dakota from a '69 'Runner?
