The definition is debated and I don't think there is a solid answer to it. It's a mystery  :coolgleamA:

Does anyone know what this trim is called?

The two outside ones are vinyl top moldings and the center one is a rear window lower molding.

STIG

Oh, cheers, thought the whole line was one/connected moulding   ::) Was it an option to have the moulding without the vinyl roof? or did people just add it themselves because they like the look?

Not an option but it is something that people sometimes do for the look and it is part of the GL.

440

The vinyl top C-pillar moldings are two pieces.

I think if he was the real stig he wouldn't be after a GL  :Twocents:

If you want honesty, fairness and an accurate GL build, you will do no better than these guys: http://www.smithbrosrestorations.com/ They've even got a nice '69 for sale and ready to build right now. They've done work for me and are very helpful and charge resonable prices. They've done builds for guys overseas too.

STIG

Yip, talked to them a few times over the phone and seen some of their work (and got a price list too). They are obviously one of, if not the best, General Lee builders in the world - but they are nearly double our budget unfortunately. Their very base build is $76,000 USD, then $86,000 USD and onwards. Would be nice though!  :icon_smile_cool:

Hi Stig, is that the Barry Curtis bridge in flatbush behind your Merc?

Personally, I think you are better off finding the cleanest most unmolested car that you can and doing the paint and bodywork here. A mate of mine in our club has a very good GL that he did here, it will be on display with our club cars at Fathers Day Drags at Meremere tomorrow.
I brought in my black 68 R/T last year and have a few contacts to ship with and inspect with, but it wont be a $200 inspection fee either, costs more, everything costs more and takes a long time.
I would bide my time and find the right car rather than go with an itchy trigger finger, it could take 6 months to find the right one.

Here, Moparts and FBBO have a good for sale section but the tech and the people on here make this site a great find for all things Charger.

I also think its well do-able in your budget or for close to it, +20% maybe

Cheers

Bob

Hello fellow Kiwi  :coolgleamA: Thanks for all that information! We've had a few General Lees lined up recently and the process has halted and "Sold locally", so now after some advice on here, we're just buying a tidy 69' Charger and shipping it in. In fact, we may have something now... it costs quite a bit, but it's a tidy, low mileage example that is ready to be converted. We may still just buy entire new interior for it at the same time (although the current one is very tidy, it's still not that much for brand new parts either). We've found a shipping company from the NZV8 magazine... I think they charge around $3000 for the shipping? The costs don't really matter at this stage, we just really want the car here and all the parts ready to go to have it ready for the Beach Hop this time around (as we usually took down our yellow 71' Charger prior to its sale)... We took the H2 down this year and it just isn't the same  :rotz: If you have trusted contacts though, that's probably better than us just assuming someone's good from a magazine, eh.

I know the guy you're talking about and unfortunately haven't had the opportunity to meet him yet and see his car! If he's going to be at Meremere tomorrow, I think I'm definitely going to have to drive down to see it. He was supposed to be at the Ellerslie car show once and he wasn't to be seen  :eek2:

The photo is taken in Hobsonville, I know the bridge you're talking about though  ;)

Ok Cheers, sounds like you're on to it then. There's a few Kiwis on here.
Am working on the gate/booth down there tomorow, but my car will be parked up with the rest of them inside the main gate, check it out if you get a chance or someone will point me out maybe, Kelvin.
His GL is a real treat, just put a stroker 496 and 4 speed in it, the Matakana Run was the first miles on the new motor
Just guessing now, was your old 71 the one with the bulge hood and big wheels?
We usually head down to the Hop, been to quite a few

Oh ok, yeah, I think Justin's on the entrance as well? (Nitro). Justin's told me about the transmission and engine he's running now, that's very cool indeed! I'll definitely check out your cars first thing  ;D

Yeah, our Charger was that one that had the 22" chromes (done by previous owner mind you). The wheels looked 'somewhat' good rolling along at motorway speeds at least   she was tidy though.

I'll be in contact with you when we know we've secured the car  :2thumbs: Here's a couple shots of our old one anyway

Oh, that does look pretty good actually. The one we're looking at is quite a bit tidier though for not too much more! Plus I'd have no idea how to change that roof :icon_smile_cool:

vinyl top comes off  ,  there is a thread with  some  debate on chargers with vinyl tops  ,   my betting  7 out of every 10 chargers built had a top  , maybe  :P  this is just a wild shot in the dark  though !

dare say any other charger your going to get & give it   the GL treatment  , more than half would of had a vinyl originally  :Twocents:

And yet at twice the price you'd still be money ahead if you get bit by a scammer. Have you seen the jb666 story?

Wow. Poor bugger. That sucks BIG TIME! Absolutely terrible. I hear in American you can sue people? Surely that's a cause for a lawsuit?  :rotz:

You "CAN" sue people in America?  It's almost a requirement in order to maintain citizenship. :smilielol:

That's why I told you DON'T BUY FROM A DEALER / BUILDER STIG.   They target our foreign mopar brothers like you.   Good luck and happy hunting.     :2thumbs:
