Guys,

I'm replacing my wheel studs on my Dana 60 Strange because they can with the race length application.  Anyway, when I removed the axle, I was surprised that it looks like the hub got pretty hot.  Is this normal?

it doesn't look like heat discoloration as the discoloration is not even but patchy ,it looks  more like rust / grease stains from the axle housing end

Just making sure, so I shouldn't worry about it?

Custom axles right out of the box will often show heat discoloration at the flange, I suspect that the shaft and flange are welded.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Those are the snap ring green bearings.     Just make sure they rotate freely without grinding and without any slop.   They may or may not last a long time.  Hard to say.
