Need help establishing value...

I came across a 69 R/T SE that I might be able to talk the guy into selling. The car is currently sitting behind an out building rotting away. It's a 69 R/T SE 440/727/D60. The entire drive train has been removed and it now has a 318/906/8.75" under it. The car itself is in really rough shape. It's going to require all new steel inside and out (floors are almost completely gone). The doors might be the only salvageable original steel on the car, maybe the hood with some major work. Other than the drive-train, taillights and dashboard, it appears complete. I have no idea what to toss out as an offer. I'd love to save this car. My gut tells me $2-3k but I'm thinking that it could be worth a bit more.

He also has an XP Charger as well. He doesn't know anything about this one other than the first 2 digits of the VIN and the fact that it's a 318 auto. He figures that the XP is "worthless since there is no title." If I buy the XS, I was thinking of making him an offer for the pair. Thoughts on this? The condition on the XP appears to be similar to the XS. It's hard to say though since I don't have any good pictures of it at the moment. I'm thinking that the XP could come in handy during the restoration of the XS, besides, it would be nice to get another Charger out of the weeds and possibly breath life back into it.

I know pictures would help quite a bit when determining value so I'll work on getting some in hand. All that I've seen thus far is a few physical pics, I'm working on getting my hands on some digital ones.

Thanks for ANY help that you can provide...

I would find out how hard it is to get a title for the xp charger. If you can get one in your state without too much trouble I would offer 2500 for the pair. I would then decide which one to keep and then sell the other one. When I was looking for a charger I would have probably paid 1500-2000 for one in that shape IF it had a clear title.

The XS has a bonded title. I should be able to get my hands on another bonded title for the XP but it's hard to say for sure.

I think your gut is right. I doubt it'd be any more than 2000-3000. I'd offer him 3 for the pair.

I've been doing a LOT of lurking lately. Tons of reading and researching my options for my current project. Not much to contribute at the moment though so I've been quiet. I finally took my Charger out of the garage again about a month ago. I'm looking for somebody to paint it. It's nearly ready for paint. Other than moving about 3 years ago, this is the first time the Charger has moved since late 2005. It's been a rough number of years. First we went through 3+ years of trying to sell our house (took a bath but got a great deal on the new place so it's all good). Then, just over 2 years ago we celebrated the birth of our third (and final) child, Blake! Just when I was getting ready to start working on the Charger again a few months later, Blake was diagnosed with 4 major congenital heart defects. As a result we spent the vast majority of 2011 living at St Mary's hospital in Rochester. Blake had 3 open heart surgeries, 3 catherization procedures and countless other appointments. We started 2012 with another cath procedure that was a complete and total failure. As a result we're looking at another MAJOR week+ long multiple surgery event. This will very likely take place sometime next year. Bottom line for Blake is that he's going to require quite a bit of surgical intervention over the course of his life but, in pretty much every other way, he's a normal 2 year-old expected to live a "normal" life. You can read the full details on his CaringBridge page if you're interested. I nearly sold my Charger but my wife convinced me not to. Fortunately for all of us, things have slowed down enough that I can start to plug along at my restoration again. I actually found the cars in question searching for parts.

Anyway, how are things going for you? I actually drive right through your neck of the woods almost daily. Haven't seen your Charger on the road...

Whoa, good luck with your son first and foremost.  I have been living in Minnetonka for about 4 years now.  Things are good.  I get between 1000-2000 miles a year on my Charger.  I drive it as much as i can afford the gas.  :icon_smile_big:   :-\

Just an update on these cars....

Guy thinks that he's sitting on a pile of gold. Want's no less than $4500 for the R/T SE. As it sits it needs ALL new metal. Has a 318/904/8.75 combo in it at the moment as well. He's also unwilling to work a deal on the XP right now because he has no title. Again, he convinced that if it had a title, it would be worth some coin. Sounds like he'd want around $8500 for the pair. The XP is in similar condition as the XS. I never did get any good pictures though and wasn't willing to drive 4 hours to go and check them out when we weren't even close on price.

Oh well, no big loss. At this point I'm just going to keep my eyes open. I'd like another Charger but am not going to overpay for something that isn't even workable.

Smart decision, time to walk away.  Depending on his demeanor, I would still give him my phone number in case he changes his mind and would politely inform him that $3K is might generous.

Removed the R/T drivetrain for a 318/904... wtf...

I know, strange. I have seen stranger things (like the XS29L9B => XP29G9B "rebody" in my garage) though so, whatever...

Woah that's weird!  Just glanced over your page.  So you thought you had an XP but it turned out to be an XS?  Well that sure doesn't happen every day.   :icon_smile_big:

It sure seems that way. I thought that I had an XP SE car with no fender tag and a mismatched drivetrain. Turns out that I probably have an XS R/T SE with no fender tag and a mismatched drivetrian. So, the question is, does that make my R/T SE restomod an R/T clone or an XP clone??? LOL
