 Hello all,

I just joined this site as after lurking a bit I have found it to be a collective wealth of information and I hope eventually I may be able to contribute as well.  I have been into all things automobile related since 1976 (I'm 38 now) and have witnessed many fads and trends come and go but some things remain timeless including the 68-70 Chargers.  I have had over 100 cars and two were Chargers, a 71 and a 72 and although I have nearly bought a 69 and a 70 they both slipped by me.  I thought I'd mention something I learned a little about with my 72 Charger and the 73 Imperial Lebaron tudor (rare)......I can sum it up in one word....Thermoquad.  LOL!  I actually had good experiences (eventually) with both.

The above is just a very small glimpse into my experience with automobiles but it was mostly related to the site so its a start.  LOL!  Bringing you all up to current times and the reason I really landed here is this....... My friend just picked up a 68 Charger 318 automatic car that was as intact as they come.  It is a black interior/ black top car with gold paint.  It has vintage slots on it and an aftermarket (also incorrect) R/T stripe around the rear but a sharp car nonetheless especially being that I love the nostalgic stuff.  His car still has the shoulder belts and all A/C in place and has never been wrecked but has some rust naturally.  He has just purchased a 440 to build for it and will finish it in a pro touring fashion.....anyway..... The guy he got the 68 from has a 69 project he said he would consider selling which I am selling my toys like mad to acquire said car.

Regardless, I will soon be purchasing a 69 Charger to pursue a long lost dream/childhood fantasy.  I have always been a fan of Dirty Mary Crazy Larry and love everything about the main car (69 R/T, others were used I know but...) and I am hoping to build an extremely faithful clone down to correct wheel and tire style and size but this endeavor has lead me to a few questions and ultimately here.  Actually I must confess I love everything about the car except the steering wheel.  LOL!

I know that Model Maker (Bert) could likely answer my questions best but members such as Ghoste and others are avid fans of DMCL and have done much research and gained much knowledge concerning the cars used in the film and I will later ask what questions I have in threads that already exist concerning the DMCL car.

I have seen some nice DMCL clones on here but most have a few personal touches that distract from the car a bit  (they are beautiful cars in their own right guys so I'm not knocking them...)  I want to clone the car as close as possible, well.....visually anyway.... I'll probably leave the steering wheel intact also even though it should have had another. LOL!  I'll post pics when I score the right Charger (hopefully the one I mentioned) and I'll do a build thread when it happens.  I'll also see if my friend will join and post all about his 68.  I'm looking forward to anything I gain from here and I hope to contribute as well.  Hello and Goodbye for now -Bob
Me: Why didn't they make this bracket easier to get to and adjust?  It would have been much simpler with a little design change...

Dad: I'll tell you why.....It would have made too much damn sense, that's why.

Thank you guys.  I haven't seen many DMCL clones and most I found are on this site and I've definitely seen some cool cars here.  Everyone one seems to want to clone only one car over and over (cough, cough)  but to each his own and I admit I've seen some faithful ones out there and don't mind seeing them from time to time.  I've just never seen a DMCL replica at any car shows I've been to over the years and I've loved that car since childhood as I mentioned previously.

I look forward to learning from you guys and I know I have a lot to learn.  I am fond of Mopars but out of all the cars I've had over the years I've seem to had fewer Mopars than anything else.  I'll post when I score the right car and I'll post progress and anything I may discover or learn along the way.  I look forward to all and perhaps even making a few friends along the way.  -Bob
