Stay away. If it was unassembled and less id say its a deal...assembled you have NO idea how good or bad the work is. Also those rocker arms and hold downs are garbage and will need to be replaced. Cam is old school purple grind, again youd want to change that as well.

Baffles me why youd spend so much on an engine only to throw in an outdated cam, cheap as all hell rocker arms/hold downs, probably didnt replace the keepers on the stealth heads either which are another weak point. IMO that motor might be good, but in the long run its a grenade waiting to explode, on the top end anyways.

Also chances are that oil pan isnt going to clear your subframe without some work, so that would be another added expense.

Ive only bought 1 motor that was buttoned up and sight unseen (Ford 427 dirt cheap, and that turned out to be a CJ motor so i got lucky big time) but besides that never bought a motor that was buttoned up, new or used. And ive had quite a few 440's laying around at one time (5-6 of em) for used id tell em i want to pop off the heads...if there is no cylinder wall issues ill buy it, if there is ill gladly put the head back on for ya but im not buying the motor. There are some guys on here id trust, no one on craigslist. Ive gotten lucky once, id never take that chance again.

it may be worth looking at , I would have all the machine work checked & replace cam & rockers for sure

Looks like a hodge-podge of mostly good parts but not really suited to each other. It IS one of the most interesting builds I have seen in a long time. I kinda like it. It appears to be a mild race motor (550 HP) that will run on pump gas and idle like a 900 HP engine. Is that what you want?

The cylinder heads would need to be worked to even begin to be able to use the camshaft. I would think that the rockers would need replacing because of the spring loads required to use the mushroom tappet cam and the "Battleship" springs.

The dollar value of parts and machine work, if done correctly, is there, but it would need the investment of a new gasket set and the time to completely disassemble and measure and inspect every part and all clearances.

I would agree with about 550hp...   the heads are the limiting factor...    also that cam sounds pretty nasty for the street...

I am leaning that way. Who wouldnt like a grossly over powered street cruiser. And the more I research options, the more I want to go that way.

This add looked promising. But if I need to tear it down to make sure it was done correctly, and swap in better parts, then why not just start from scratch and build it one time?

The parts look pretty good although the camshaft is old technology, I also am not crazy about the rockers, the gear drive and the intake. I don't like that Fram filter, most good engine people do not use FRAM oil filters these days (it just puts doubt in my mind about quality of other parts). It would have to be priced $1500 under the price of the parts and machining for me. That would leave wiggle room for taking it down for an inspection and tailoring a few parts to suit your needs. Otherwise why not build your own?
I would expect to pay $1500 at least to get the heads ported and checked over, the gear drive could be a junker that needs replacing, same for the balancer and the rockers.
