I'm still new to this, but except for the grill, different marker locations what are the sheetmetal differences between a 68 and a 70?

I'm assuming the whole bottom is the same? (Frame rails etc).  I know 68 and 70 hoods are different, but how exactly?

Thank you!  If there is a resource for this already please point me to it :)

Mostly the front fenders to the valance, hood, and all, due to the hood being different in the way it mates towards the bumper :Twocents:

Well between a 68 and a 70, all the stuff mentioned above (entire front end, really) also the rear quarters (markers) and the rear valance are different.   I believe a 69 valance is the same or pretty close, but the 68 had round lights so is totally different.

The 68 and 69 hoods are interchangeable, but the 70 hood just comes to a stop at the big chrome grille in the front, so it's shaped completely differently.   The 68 and the 69 both turn down a bit at the front since they don't stop at a big chrome grille.

The 68 doors had a different door lock positioning from the 70 as well.

Also on the 70 R/T, the door scallops were covered by a 'scoop' that fit over them with an R/T logo.

I think that covers it... I'm probably missing something small but that's the big parts.

The main difference is that the 68's have one of the best tail light/section set ups from the entire muscle car era...

You sir, would be correct.  That's why I chose the '68 over the '69... it was close but that ass end just looks evil.

Aside from the signal lights -

The '68s and '69s had virtually the same body & outer skin except for the center of the plastic grille and the taillight panel.

1970 cars shared the taillight panel with the '69s but the entire front clip was different.  Everything ahead of the cowl & doors will not interchange.  Fenders, hood, bumper grille, lower front valance, etc.

You meant to say 69 right?  Surely you don't mean that goofy Chevy looking round taillight setup?  :nana:

Not exactly sheet metal but part of it - the hood turn signals are different and, I believe, so are the marker lights in the front valance. Due to the change in the grill, the entire headlight assemblies are different (and electrically operated). Underneath the front external sheet metal, the cowl, inner fenders, frame rails, and radiator support are all the same from 69-70 (along with every other B-body). Other than some sheet metal and most of the drive train, there isn't much that matches between a 68 and a 70.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Thanks guys!  I have been looking at parts, and I keep running into GREAT deals on 69 and 70 parts, but no 68 sheet metal :(

Time is on my side however :)  Also found a great rust free 70 and a 69 shell (why me?) :)
