There weren't many to begin with.  The common figure for most musclecars has been a 20% survival rate (its a guess of course but it seems to be the most accepted guess) but it is generally felt the wingcars had a higher survival rate due to instant collector status.  How much higher?  I dunno.

Aero426

About 65 percent on the Superbirds, and 70 percent for the Daytonas.   I would consider that a very high rate compared to other performance cars of the time.

So approximately 1250 Superbirds and about 350 Daytonas ?
Is anyone keeping a current count of birds and Daytonas?

I've personally shot 3 Daytonas that previously had been "out of sight" and I recently shot a 69 500 that has been hiding.

So they are still out there popping up.

It is slightly higher.   Daytona-Superbird Auto Club (me) maintains an active registry.

I may need to revise numbers up or down slightly on the engine and trans combination as updated information is added, but these are from 2009:

388 Daytona VIN's known.
1257 Superbird VINs known.

Danny has a better handle on the 500s than we do.

There are hundreds left to be found!l  You would be surprised how many folks own them and do not belong to any clubs, read car magazines or care about the value, other than, "One day I'll fix it up, cuz it's worth something."

I remember years ago when I was following up a lead on a Bird and found five cars in various states of repair.  None were for sale!!!!!!!!!!!!   All were going to be restored... some day!     In barns. In fields. In garages.

All this in 8 hours of driving around.
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

1966hemi

I hope you are correct, maybe I will have a chance of finding one of those finds!

62 Max

There are three birds in less than 12 miles from my house, two have been in the barn for 25 + years, the third hasn't been on the road for over ten years. One B5,one EV2 and one 999 Petty Blue. The two in barn have major damage, the B5 was a daily driver.

If anyone wants to be Hot Rod Magazine... let me know.  I will drive for a story.  I keep everything anonymous so nobody will know where the cars are at.  Just help inspire people.

:iagree: Not everything needs to be nor should it be public knowledge. Lots of cars are well known amongst friends. That does not mean they need to be posted so the rest of the world knows their particulars.  :Twocents:

69_500

True but known to the clubs is different than known world wide. 500's I can say its over 265. It's horrible that I can not think of the exact number off the top of my head though.

Daytona R/T SE

Rumor has it there is a superbird in a barn a mile or so from my house.

These people own several buildings in town and have owned a lot of dodge trucks and Chrysler product cars over the years.

The Superbird story came from a guy I know that used to work for them.

He was sent out to the farm to get something out of the barn and he saw the car.

He told me it had a huge wing on the back and said "Plymouth" on the side.

I showed him a picture in a magazine and he said "That's it!"

The same family was rumored to have a 71 GTX since new.

I've seen that car through the window of one of the buildings they own in town so the Superbird story is plausible to me.

I've asked this here before, but is there a list of dealers that sold the Superbirds new?

This could confirm the story.

They always bought their cars from the same small town dealership.
