Does the mechanical fuel pump on a 440 operate from the #1 cylinder eccentric, or does the cam have a dedicated one for the pump?

:yesnod:  The fuel pump has its own more rounded lobe on the cam.

That was quick, thanks!

I have a Purple Shaft cam that was installed two previous owners ago, but I have no idea of which one. Do you know if they can run a mechanical pump? I have an electric pump I'd like to ditch.

Yes they do, all of them. You'll need a fuel pump push rod also.  :2thumbs:

Is it possible that this lobe can become worn so that it doesn't move the fuel pump push rod?

Just 6T9 CHGR

Generally its the other way around....the pushrod is the sacrificial part

It can as cam lobes have been wiped out due to todays crappy oil but I'd have to agree with Chris that its more likely the fuel pump push rod will go long before the lob on the cam since it is not under the kind of pressure that lifters are.
