Is this too much slack in timing chain? pic

Installed new timing chain on 318 and the slack seems a little excessive, when squeezed it comes in 1/2'' on each side. The lower crank sprocket can be pulled in and out by hand- a new cotter key there would help the situation for that but the chain would still be loose. The cam sprocket can be turned left to right a little under an 1/8 of an inch from the chain situation-is this slack acceptable for a smooth running engine?

Should be "ok". Maybe a little bit "lose" but ok none the less. I've seen ALOT owrse run for a long time.
