'70 taillights

On a 1970 there are three lamps on either side. are the inboard lamps running lights or brake lights?

Right now they are on with the running lights, but they are brighter like brake lights, which looks wrong. Never had a 70 before and could not remember.

running lights , tail lights !!     with the lights on all three each side should be the same brightness , when you hit the brakes  or  operate the turn signals  the outer two bulbs each side flash brighter  ,  cause they are a double filament bulb

Something doesn't sound right about an inner one being brighter all the time.  A failing bulb maybe?

Yea , dosn't look right , I think it got rewired incorrectly somewhere along the line.

The inboard lights are tail lights only.  A number 67 or 97 bulb will give you the correct brightness.

Correct, I can't stand it when people f*ck this up by installing a 1156 Bulb, then waonder why it looks like they have half a brake light on all the time.

when i got my 70, the lights were the same way. the inner bulbs were brighter, like brakes were on for those 2 bulbs. someone in its past life put the wrong bulbs in causing the brighter glow.

Yep , 1156 bulbs where the problem and yellow 1157s in the outboard sockets. Will replace all the bulbs with the correct ones.

whats worse is when you see an 1156 put in there and painted over with black to darken the bulb!

I had a short supply of GE Westinghouse 1095s They went fast  .

I see some other ones on the net but dont know if there correct
