I found this story on The Blaze.  Six Flags closed for Katrina, and never reopened.  A guy went in and caught some really neat pictures of the abandoned amusement park.

The little black cat he found wandering the park reminds me of my cat Max when I found him.

Glad the little guy survived and got a new home.

Very cool pictures

If Scooby Doo has taught me anything, it's that abandoned amusement parks are ALWAYS haunted.

I remember a similar site of photos of the park built by evangelist-slash-embezzler Jim Bakker in South Carolina.

Sad to see such rot/waste...

Cool pics.  :2thumbs:   When I was driving OTR, I had a delivery a few doors down from the NASA Michoud Assembly plant and that Six Flags park was literally right around the corner. This was in 2006. It was eerie, but the whole town was. Many of the intersections had the stop lights standing but none of them worked.

Why would they just walk away and not reopen? Or if they leave it closed I see a huge liabilty issue. How long bfore som kids g in and climb up a roller coaster and fall off? I see lawsuits brewing......

Easy..... Money.

It was one of, if not the least profitable park in the chain.

Katrina was most likely a blessing.  They close up shop and take the insurance money.  I doubt that the insurance money could recoup their entire investment cost.
However Im sure its a way better deal then pumping more and more money into a failing business for years. Then eventually trying to sell it off for peanuts.....

As far as lawsuits.........  From what I read the land was part of some sort of deal with the city.  From my understanding ownership of the land reverts back to the city.
So Im guessing it would be up to the city to secure it. And all lawsuits would become the burden of the city.

I would say from a business standpoint it was a very smart decision.

I just ran across some of those pics from the run through New Orleans I mentioned above.

This was an empty building but it shows where the water level was.

This is at the NASA Michoud Assembly plant.

A dead stop light at an intersection.

The next three are pics of the amusement park from the view of my truck.

These next three are pics of our tax dollars at work showing NEW FEMA trailers just sitting there, some sinking in the mud.

I have tons of pics from that area...

6 Flags abandoned a new project here in New Port Richey, Florida also around that time.. They still own the land, but will not comment on any further development.. A bunch of hotels were built all around it after being invited to some 6 Flags meetings on them building a park here...  They are struggling and will probably end up closed as well..

The last time i went to a six flags was when i lived in Chicago and it sucked.  Who wants to pay money to stand in line for 45 min to and hour to go on a ride that lasts 1-2 minutes?  I'm better off spending that money on my significant other in hopes of getting a different ride that night.  Right myk!  who's with me!   :icon_smile_big:
