Car show regret......

Took my 10 year old grandson to a car show in Pinehurst Idaho yesterday.  Big show, probably over 300 cars.  The show wasn't judged like a normal show.  Local area merchants each picked their favorite cars for the trophies.  It was hot and getting hotter.  The boy was getting hot and bored, so figuring I didn't stand a chance to win anything we decided to head home.  After about an 1 1/2 hour drive home, when walking in front of the car I spotted a little round sticker on my bumper that said "YOU'VE BEEN PICKED".  I had no idea that they were identifying the winners prior to the trophy presentations.  Needless to say, the grandson was pretty bummed about it......

That sucks about that car show, they should have put the little sticker on your doorhandle or something like that.

Off topic, you have been spotted by a Dutch tourist on vacation in your area.

Ghoste

Hopefully it hasn't soured him on trying again.

Sorry 'bout that Bob.  Some kids' really dig going up to receive awards.
When I first started showing my Charger after the Hemi install I hit a lot cruises'.  My wife would bring my daughter towards the end cause she used to really enjoy going up to get the trophy/plaque.

The good ol' days...now she wants nothing to do with my old cars.

This is the last time she retrieved one.  It's a mad dash to the podium & back.   ;)

Unlucky RECHARGED, they should've maybe put it on the windscreen in the sightline

Went to a cruise in at a pub yesterday with some mates, one guy has a 69 Runner with an Indy 477 and 4 speed, was getting ready to leg it when they announced managers choice , Black 68 R/T. Came with a $100 bar tab, Sweet,  we had a few drinks and a quick meal and had my mates Mrs drink 3 Vodka feijoa cocktails , Nice  :smilielol:

Sometimes the shows hold the trophy if they had your name for pickup later.  At our shows if someone left early they attach their name to the trophy and hand it to them next time or someone who knows them will take it to them.  Its not the same as walking up to receive it but if it worked out he might would like to have it displayed in his room

Cooter

I thought the purpose of a car show wasn't to get a trophy? ok, now I'm confused.  :D

You are right Cooter, I was thinking though that it was a missed opportunity to hold the grandson interest in cars seeing as how he was getting bored.  Sometimes they need that part to excite them and get them to want to take up the hobby, no?

Cooter

Aren't you teaching him/her that he or she needs to get a trophy at all car shows then? If a trophy is the only thing "Holding" his/her interest at a car show..... I thought the CARS was what held the Attention at Car shows?

Why don't they call them "Trophy shows" then?

Congrats!

Sorry to hear you missed the trophy but I can totally understand the kids and car shows situation. I wouldn't be able to survive the heat of Carlisle with my boys (10yrs) without the fact that Troy gets the DC.com tent. I can take them there every hour or so where they can sit down, enjoy a drink and generally rest out of the sun.

Now I'm confused.....  All I can tell you is that it was hot, we were parked on pavement.  We had checked out all the cars that interested us.  The car show still had three more hours to go and it was an 1 1/2 hour drive back.  I really didn't think we had a chance at a trophy with all the beautiful cars there.  We did a poker walk around town and the little guy was pretty well spent.  So we left.  It's just that simple......

I think you missed the thought in both mine and his post.  I didn't read anywhere that the grandson or RECHRGD went to win one or got upset because they didn't get one.  I only saw the youngster was disappointing in that they had won one and wasn't able to collect it and mentioned that it may still be available if the paths crossed.  No lessons being given about winning trophies.  Yeah for some folks it means something as recognition for a nice car.  For myself I go to chit chat and see some cars and don't care whether I get something or not,, but if by chance something was awarded to me (door prize etc.) it would have been a little damper not to be able to pick it up.

Looks like he had quite a car viewing vacation.  Wish I could figure out what was said about the car and it's association with DC.com.....

Every now and then I come across a car show that puts stickers or smiley faces on the winners headlights.
I always joke that I can never win since my headlights are hidden.

A show I was at a few weekends ago mailed me the 2nd place trophy I won even thought I left before the awards ceremony.

Congrats on the award
