So looking at maybe trading my 68 b body for a 71 barracuda.
68 - nice original interior, 383 replaced with a 440, does run and drive.
Needs patch in both lower quarters, and dent in passenger fender.
It has original paint all faded, vynal top is removed. Is a very solid car runs and drives as is, needs some body n paint  and lots elbow grease to be very nice.
71 base model cuda - what I been told: body is solid but ill need new trunk, has grill valance park lamps head light buckets tailights good cuda hood, lots of part with it.
Interior okay shape needs help. No drive train but he throw in a J headed 360 with 340 intake (I do have a 71 no vin 440 motor ready to go).
I know 71's are desired in alot of communities, but still thinking I would need to get more in the deal, since this is clearly a project car.
So what you guys think?

I would not trade my B body for the Barracuda.

I think you need to get more in the deal than what is offered.

The 71 Cuda  is a very nice car, and Cudas will always be near the top, if not at the top, for most wanted Mopar.

Asking the wrong crowd here.  Agree the E-bodies are sexy and desirable in their own right but I was, am and shall remain an intermediate guy.

If I had a spare B to trade, I'd make the swap in a second. I wouldn't trade my Charger for one, though.

Unless the Cuda owner REALLY wants a charger, one has to wonder why he would swap an E-body for a B-body.

If the cuda is decent enough I say go for it. How often does one get a chance at a '71 e body?

Here is top of my charger not a great pic.

After reading comments...I do love look of the charger...but hard to find 71 barracuda even in project states for a decent price.
Laning towards the trade with right things thrown in, and get another 68 but an R/T sometime down the road.

It's missing the most important eye candy the '71's have, the grill.  You gotta at least get a complete grill in the trade.  I think even at that I'd be asking for some $$.

Miss mine.

carsnguitars

Dam that pic makes me want to trade it today!!!!.....Check my first post on thread..it has grill and lots other parts, just not on car.
I agree I love 71 grill over the 70.
Why you get rid of it, trade for B body!!!  :icon_smile_big:

The first rule about a trade is....if anyone wants your car badly enough to trade another car you have to wonder what's wrong with the other car~!  :scratchchin: :scratchchin:

When I was a 17 I had an opportunity to trade my Duster for a mint rust free 1973 Charger. This was back in 1985. I almost did the deal because a 12 year old original unmolested loaded 318 Charger SE was almost impossible to find in Michigan. The Charger was a much nicer ride than the Duster and would have been more profitable in the long run. Somehow my brain couldn't figure out why he wanted my Duster badly enough to give up this beautiful Charger so I passed on the deal. :shruggy:

It hard to believe now but back then I was convinced that a triple gold column shifted bench/center armrest 318 automatic Charger with ice cold a/c and magnum style road wheels was somehow uncool. :brickwall: :brickwall:

I saw the Charger later and realized I'd missed a golden opportunity to trade for the better car.  I blame this mistake on the "it was to good to be true rule"....and for a 17 year old kid with no money that scared the shit of out me - plus my Dad.  :smilie_help:

Where's the time machine when you need it?  :'(

You hit head on the nail with thinking must be something up. That is why I was asking for advice or thought on subject.
I am bit leary guy wanting to trade a 71 cuda, those are hard cars to come by at a decent price to start with.
But in todays economy, people are not as willing to spend on a project car, and I can see somone looking to get more of a driver type of car, for the project car.
Lets face it, a 68 charger  :drool5: not a bad car to end up with in a trade for a cuda.
Especially and E body, lets face it those babies cost money in parts! Why I dont know but they are more.

I am hoping to go look at this weekend, I am going to check what parts there, and body of the car good. Bondo rust damage acciedents etc.

Chryco Psycho

Personally I love the E bodys , it would come down to personal taste but over all a 71 E will be worth more in the same condition over the Charger

myk

Your car's already in better shape so as others have said, you'd have to be additionally compensated.  If you really must have an E body then I guess go for it-I just wish the trade is a little more even...

If someone local to me had a decent B Body they were asking about  to swap around I would consider or at least think about it trading with my 70 SE E-Body  (Chally) for one.  I'd look at a small block over the 440 in this one. I like them ok but I don't see anything special about them better over a B-Body. I guess I'm more of a B-Body preference.  I like that at least they have more room for my 6'7" self in them than the 68 FB I have.

Old Moparz

Trading a car you like for a car you like is a tough choice. At least for me it would be, but I'm at a point where less is more. If a car needs less work I'm more inclined to keep it & get rid of the project. I actually sold a '71 Barracuda a couple of years ago after getting a clean car, a '70 Road Runner.

Metro Parts is making complete '71 Cuda Grilles & they are really nice. I saw them at Carlisle this year & thought about buying one to put in my '68 Charger.

Commas,,,,,.  They'd help someone like me understand what you're writing.  I seen grill valance & thought oh ok, the valance is included.  Don't get all mad at me now.   ;)

So why's the grill, etc. out of it to begin with?  If he took it all out, I'd make him put it back together.

Why'd I sell?  Daughter plays premier soccer so we travel a little & the past 3 years put us in the poor house so big Daddy had to step up & sell one of his toys.

Do have an update....I was tying to setup to see the car this last weekend, but did not work out.
I also noticed while scanning ads in a another city close by (Portland), a pic of the same cuda down there. It was an ad by a well known charger flipper in that city.
Kinda felt I might be giving up too much to start with, and now with this, just dont get the vibe, if you know what I mean.

So thinking I will do body and paint, and if I decide get a cuda later down the road, I can sell this one or one even some of the other cars, and get a clean car.

Heck not like you can loose with a charger or a cuda, both great cars to drive and have fun with.

While seeing this post, I thought...What type of B-body ? and what type of E- body ?
After the suspense was found, I think a 71 'Cuda will always be worth more than any Charger.  :Twocents:
I put after-market seats in my 71 'Cuda and I fit very well. (I am 6'4) . :Twocents:

As in Portland, Oregon?

Yep that one. Not that I care if a guy flips cars at all, but I figure he is in the deal for profit, I am in it for more of a fair trade.

Several years ago ( it's been almost 20  :eek2: ) I had a nice, reliable '72 Charger that I drove everywhere.

I really liked that car.

Then along came this little whore of a four speed Challenger that I thought I had to have.

So, I sold my Charger and bought that sexy little yellow slut.

I hated that piss colored bitch.

Too small, rode like a log wagon and everybody would say "Nice Camaro"

And...

It was yellow...

I hate yellow cars.

So... I sold it.

I haven't had a car I enjoyed driving like my old Charger since.

Probably never will...

As others have eluded to, the Charger is more appealing to me........ BUT, looking forward and with potential in my eyes (some can see it coming already, "Troy-trade")........

If the '71 you're referring to is a real '71 'Cuda and not a base Barracuda, it has more potential in getting something else you may prefer in the long run, for example a real 440 Charger R/T. Albeit, the 68 383 Charger is nice, it is nonetheless still a base Charger with a 383 option.

Just food for thought............  This rational has served me well having all roads lead to what I have now, the Daytona and Charger 500 (both acquired via trades)............
