There are no good 68 R/T Chargers for sale

Other than a bunch of sh!tboxes and a couple of overpriced Hemi Chargers, there' has not been one decent 4-speed '68 R/T for sale for the past few months. Very frustrating, I want one now!  :brickwall:

Are there really no decent ones for sale, or just none for sale at the price that you want to pay?

With most guys who "cannot find a decent _____ for sale" the problem is really the latter one.

Well, I've got no desire for a 10-20K roach, nor an overpriced 155K Hemi. I'm looking for an original sheetmetal car that's nicely restored. Trust me, I'm willing to pay cash for a quality car.

hatersaurusrex

You might not want to refer to the 20K cars as 'roaches' just cause they're cheaper.   There are lots of them represented on here.

Well, unfortunately that price range doesn't buy the quality that I seek.

If you are willing to compromise and go with something a little different, XV Motorsports is selling a 68 Hemi Coronet RT for just under $60K. Very little left to finish it, and it is the #'s matching Hemi. Paint and body look gorgeous. Wish I had the extra $$$$ right now.

Here is the info:

We sent an email out on this car last week and have had many people contact us with similar questions.  We thought it would be helpful to send out a follow-up that covers the most common questions:

1. Engine is numbers matching.
2. Transmission is not numbers matching.
3. Engine and trans are freshly built, but engine has not been fired.
4. Car needs: dash pad, tail pipes, console missing pieces, one front turn signal light, plug wires, correct wheels (we have correct hubcaps and tires).  Other miscellaneous itmes on car are needed or need to be completed.
5. Asking price is $57,000.
6. All metal work was completed when we bought the car, car has new quarters.
7. Paint is beautiful on the car.
8. Air cleaner is original, re-chromed.

If you are seriously interested and have more questions, please contact us directly.

That's one of the three 68 Hemi Chargers currently advertised that's priced into the stratosphere and has been for sale since the beginning of the year. The asking price on their website is  140K, but they put it on ebay with a BIN for 155k. What's that tell you about the sellers.   ::)

http://www.route66classics.net/showcar.php?index=000474

For their advertised price, that car should be perfect and one shouldn't be able to pick apart the wierd door panels, 1969 console tops, wrong negative battery cable, electronic ignition, cheap repro door sills, etc. I have a feeling that in person, this car could really be picked apart.

This one's been for sale for over two years. RK Motors sold that car years ago & in typical RK fashion, the underside is undercoated. Also, I don't know if it's the lighting, but it looks like the paint on the LR quarter doesn't match the door. Pictures of the right side don't show a color difference.....

http://www.motorcargroup.com/web/used/Dodge-Charger-1968-Solon-Ohio/583773/

And here's the oanother Hemi Charger that's new to the market, which I'm sure will be sitting for a long, long time....

http://216.119.85.66/CarDetails.aspx?carID=375

Honestly, I would love to get another '68 Hemi Charger, but there's absolutely no way in hell that today, a B-body Hemi car is worth more than double the price of a comparable 440 car.

There is a car out there for you but IMHO your expectation of time frame and quality do not go hand in hand. You are going to have to wait  :Twocents:

Might I suggest you start going to car shows and just trying to buy what you want out from under someone or try to put the word out to folks with private collections that you are looking and try to get something that isn't for sale on the street.  :shruggy:  You could always give Wayne Carini a call as he isn't too far from us.  ;D

Seems like the economy has hurt the value of everything except mopar's, especially Chargers. Everyone I still see for sale is up for sale for crazy money. That doesn't mean it is going to sell for that but they are still bringing good money. I would like another 68 someday also, just can not find one within my budget either.

There are a lot of sellers out there who bought cars around 2007 and don't want to take the huge loss that faces them today.  There are also a lot of sellers who evidentally only tracked prices up to around the 2007 point and don't seem to know they are going for less now.  There are also a whack of collector car dealers out there and it seem to me like a lot of them don't maintain their own inventory but really just function as brokers for other people's cars, thus pricing things to enable to parties to enjoy a profit.
Those factors are disheartening for sure but there are still a lot of nice cars to pick from out there and they aren't all crazy priced.

But your right, pretty slim pickings during my limited search. Keep looking and you'll find a nice one.

These cars are a softening asset.  The people who appreciate them and know how to drive and maintain them are simply aging out. The generations that have followed were not raised to do things like "maintain & wax". "Use & discard" is the far more-common mantra.  I have to believe that a solid, period-correct car can be found with a little bit of effort.  I'm guessing that if you're willing to pony up $35 to $40K, you can find exactly what you want.

yep off color
its the doors  look a different color , but they not , its  due to angle light ,  doors   prolly  been painted off the car , never a good idea with metallic , especially the lighter the color ,  as the particles  Can lay slightly different to the rest  , showing either lighter or darker on the angle ,, best paint metallic  with all panels on the car  :Twocents:

I talked with the people on the yellow car & 150K is their bottom number.

This Road Runner of theirs has been advertised for quite some time (for about the same price) and I can only assume that the Charger will gather dust sitting next to it.

Q: Why is that color combo rare?

A: Because it was either an ordering mistake orsomeone with zero tastes specifically wanted it that way.

Funny how "rare" works.

V02 painted roof is very rare I know in 69 when they made 90 some thousand Road runners only 600 were coded to have a painted top .  poor mans vinyl top i guess .
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

Ghoste

I wonder if some people liked the look of a complimentary but different color top but even back then were already aware of the potential for rust with the vinyl?
