Rude jerks at the movies!

Sunday my daughter and I went to see Batman, it was kinda special as Monday she turned 21 and had big plans with her friends. There was about 5-6 messages through the previews asking everyone to turn the cell phones off. 5 minutes into the movie a phone goes off, it's the guy on the far end of the row of chairs we are sitting at. He proceeds to take the call and starts chatting, of course its the kind of phone that lights up the whole area and after about 1-2 minutes he walks up the isle talking the whole time leaving 2 teens behind. He comes back 5 minutes later with a big plastic bag flopping it around and digging out stuff to hand the boys making all kinds of racket and talking to them. 10-15 minutes later I see flashes and now the boys are texting, their phones also light up the whole area when on. After 30 minutes of this I had had enough and when it happened again I leaned past my daughter immediately and said: "CAN you turn that OFF!" The teen made a face but complied and other teen turned his off also. After that everything was fine until the credits were rolling. The guy (dad) walks across the empty row of chairs in front of where we are sitting and leans right into my face and said: The next time you talk to my son, you be polite or I'll kick your #@%%%&* A**! Then he proceeds to tell me IF I don't like it he'll "Take me outside right now!" As I stood up I told him his son and he were both VERY rude and 200 people here would agree with me not him! Now he literally leans into me 1 inch from me and says "What are you going to do about it?" So I knocked him on his butt with a two handed shove sending him flying across the isle and into the side chairs telling him to stay out of my face and if he wants to go for it do it now! My daughter is ballistic now reaming he and his teens a new one (They had just "found him" in the exiting folks from the show.) He gets back up complaining, tells my daughter (A lie as she was right there.) That I "punched him in the face."  and starts to leave. One of the teens (his son.) runs back to me a few steps and spits on me then turns to my daughter to spit on her, so I knocked him on his butt just like his dad. (My daughter later complained "You got in my way, I was gonna punch him!) (All 98 pounds of her!)
Was I wrong?  :shruggy: A nasty bully setting a terrible example for two teens, who did shout at one point he did not care if he was rude to anyone yet expects me to "be polite"? Had he not been aggressive and spoken to me about it we would have talked dad to dad, I spoke to his child as an adult addresses a misbehaving child. I don't think this guy bargained on dealing with 250lbs of ex construction worker who raised 3 kids on his own the last 12 years. Geez I just wanted to enjoy a movie!

Darkman

I wouldn't have pushed him.

A right cross straight to the chin is what he would have got from me. No one gets up in my face especially infront of my kids!

I also choose the "quieter" times to go to the movies (and also when they have screened for some time so the "novelty" has warn off) so I avoid inconsiderate jerks like that!
Make it idiot proof, and somebody will make a better idiot!

I am so disgusted with people these days.....I thought it was just Cali ass bites but it's everywhere. The current and preceding generations are the "me and what I want" gens IMO. Part of it is due to all the BS spewed by the many forms of media these days and, in large part, because both parents have to work to stay above water......even before the global economy tanked. Not to mention the total lack of taught respect for anyone, adults, women or elders.
The pathetic touchy feely ultra libs.........."we don't spank our kids, we give them a timeout" etc have now convinced the pols to pass laws that put parents in jail for disciplining their children. Kids know this and as kids will push the envelope to the extreme. Of course I'm not talking about child abuse, you all know what I mean. This is especially true in urban/suburban environments.
As to your situation, you took the high road, the mature adult path only to have it thrown back in your face by, not only the other parent BUT his kids too. What an example for those poor sots, their lives will be difficult unless they square themselves away.....fat chance.
In the heat of the moment, instead of going to the management, I'm afraid I would have lost my temper as well. In this sickeningly litigious world, even if you are the victim, these lowlife pissants will turn around and sue you.
I'm fairly certain this is why the phrase "bitch slap" was coined.

In this case a punch to the face is well deserved.

He didn't deserve to get knocked down just for making too much noise in a theater.

But that wasn't what you hit him for, was it?  If he got in your face and said "do something about it" then the consequences of that are his problem.

As for shoving his kid?  I dunno.

Maybe it was wrong in theory but IMHO he had it coming too.  I wouldn't think badly of you for it as long as you only shoved him kid-hard, not as hard as you would shove an adult.

larmstrong11

I think he got what he deserved and hopefully him and his son learned from it

nh_mopar_fan

I've asked the "youts" in front of me to "Please Be quiet" once.

The second time, I told them to "shut the f*ck up".

One stood up and turned around. I told him to sit down before he made a big mistake. He started to say something. I stood up. He sat down.

If that guy had done to me what he did to you, I'd have decked him the same as you.

FLG

Woudlve done the same thing, though if one of his kids spat at me or a female friend (no kids for me  ) id have thrown his ass down the stairs, though depending on who i was with, some of my female friends would have handed him a new one before i had gotten the chance.

Well done, inconsiderate a**holes. Wife & I were at the show one time, two people in front of us would not shut up. After shushing them a couple times I finally told them to shut the f**k up, not a peep out of them afterr that.

If I ever you see you in the movies again B5, I'm gonna kick your butt! :flame:

Way to go man. I would like to handle the situation exactly he way you did. Stick to your guns because we all paid good money to enjoy a movie without the damn interruptions of a cellphone and the rude people to do not understand common courtesey

Dont let anyone tell you any different

moparguy01

ive had teens start playing with texts in the middle of movies, and asked them to turn it off since they could light up las vegas if the power died. The second time, I turn the flashlight ap on my phone on and shine it in their face and say loudly "Oops. sorry I didn't think it was bright" they usually get the point.

Personally I would have decked the guy rather than pushed him, but hey, thats just me.

bull

Jeez, what's the deal with Batman? I saw it without incident and now I'm thinking I was the exception.

b5blue

Thanks for the support guys. I've preached to my kids for years avoiding trouble by leaving a bad situation is wise but in this case I was trapped between him and the chair with my daughter just to my side. I knew I needed room for a fighting stance to defend my daughter from us falling on her if he "went for it." The boy committed "assault with bodily fluids" on me and it appeared my daughter was next. Ironically the crap my daughter pulled growing up (She was quite a little rebel from 13-18 years old.) along with trouble from other kids had me well conversed with the sheriff dept. on what I can and can't do. His spit was on my shirt and I could have had him arrested, on the way out I pointed him out to a manager loudly stating "That punk with the dark hair spit on me!" just to establish a foundation for justifying my actions. (Yes his push was greatly less than his dad's full force ejecting from my face.)  I'm confident I reacted "defensive" in manor on both in the laws eyes. Jerk-dad knows he was down, I had him and could have jumped on top of him to mess him up, but I was "polite" and let him get up and leave unmolested.

Kudos to you for standing your ground, Neal.
I despise rude people in theatres, for the cost of a movie these days I'd like to see it without noise or interruptions.
As for Batman, I think I'll wait for the DVD.   :-\

Although one feels like doing just as you did, and he clearly deserved it from the sound of things, I can't help but wonder when the law suit papers will be filed. People are out there right now doing this sh*t. They push and push until you explode on them, then you get served. once in court, you will be the one "down" if convicted. Pride is a wojnderful thing when it works in your favor, but when you have topay some POS out of your wages because he/she deserved it, that tends to hurt alot more. People have figured this out today.

Very well done.  :2thumbs:
Agree 100%.  I hate people that just make noise let alone what you went through.  I would of pushed him like you did, and the kid.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Cooter I'm sorry you feel so helpless. Were a lawsuit brought forth I would defend and counter with my own then pursue it with great vigor. Just as the indirect criminal contempt charge I brought on my ex, she was found guilty. Just as the punk beating up and bullying the kids in my neighborhood weeped in front of a judge while his mom cried as the judge asked me if I wanted him locked up in JDC for 90 days. Or possibly the older guy pursuing my daughter who broke the injunction I put on him, he's been in and out of jail over that over the last 2 years now as he didn't complete the court ordered abuse classes I insisted he take.
The law IS there to protect you, you just can't over react. I've never hired an attorney I did these things on my own. I will never NOT defend myself or my children.  I even did my own divorce and following amendments to it. I'm not in fear of going to court, had I wanted to they would have been arrested.
I think you my be swayed by media hype my friend, the 1 in 10,000 case that has seemingly bizarre outcome that makes the news. When examined closer you'll find something amiss that draws that outcome. The law interests me, it has worked proper so far.  :2thumbs:

This. I applaud you for standing up for yourself and above all else your daughter, but we really have to be careful.  I'm old school in that I believe that a lot of idiots just need a good ass kicking to remind them of their place, and even though street justice is exactly what is needed these days, we live in a time where an overly-sympathetic society and their laws are designed to protect wrong-doers just as much as innocent people, arguably even more so.  Personally, I would've gotten the theater management/personnel involved.  We pay those people up to $20 a ticket to see a movie, the least they can do is guarantee an opportunity to enjoy that movie without bother.  Again I'm glad things worked out the way they did for you 'OP, and there was no further incident or damage to you and your daughter...

twodko

Neal,
I hear you loud and clear. What you describe is exactly the way the system "should" work and I'm happy it did for you and I also second the "don't over react" caution. That will make you/your petition look suspect.

My early comments were borne out of the ridiculous litigious environment here in Calistupidia.

Never said anything about feeling "Helpless"....Only difference between what you did and how I woulda handled it was catch the muthaf*cka out where their were NO witnesses and beat the hell outta him. But, then again, that's me.

Do it where there are witnesses, and you are asking for it. Don't know bout you, but I refuse to pay out the ass for lawyers and fees for this and that legal wrangling bullsh*t..I prefer to have it where they have no case to begin with. Sure, it may appear that the "Bully" "Beat me down" and embarrassed me, but as soon as he least expects it, I'll be there. No fury like the fury of a patient man.
