I had the Charger (69) out yesterday for a quick ride and for the first time I lost something off my car while driving it.  :'( I lost the right side tail light chrome trim piece. It must have vibrated loose. I lost it about a mile down the road. I didn't notice until tonight and went out and tried to find it. Well, I did find it, but it was in about 20 pieces. Somebody must have run it over. Has this happened to anyone else? What can I use to secure both of these chrome trim pieces? Luckily, I do have a spare.

Who else has lost stuff off their Charger while driving it?

OMG, this just happened to me on the morning of Saturday Jul 28th.  However, I lost the DRIVERS side chrome tail light bezel.  I went back to retrace my route but couldn't find it.  I do not have a spare and I am looking for one now.  Anyone have one to sell?  The stupid thing is - I did have a early warning sign.  I noticed it before that it was going to fall out and it was hanging on by 1 screw.  I pushed it back in, and said to myself that I would fix it later.   :brickwall:  :cryin: :( :-[

lug nut snapped off on the way to the mechanic for another thing in 1985.  It broke the windshield of the car behind me which I found out when they pulled in right after me.

Crap, how could I forget!!

I lost my LR wheel on the way home from a show!  Just had the car painted 3 months prior (in 1998).....on the way home from the Mopar Atlantic Nationals in Englishtown, NJ with 2 friends in the car, I felt a vibration starting in the drive train.  Pulled over & the 3 of us looked over the car with nothing unusual spotted.  Got back in & felt that when I swerved back & forth "like this" it got worse....within 3 seconds after I said that in my rear view mirror I saw shiny lug nuts being scattered across the road way! Felt a thump then bang bang bang!

Luckily I was doing only 20mph or so & pulled over.  Thankfully the rim rode on the drum & didn't completely come off and do any damage to the quarter....found all but one of the lugs, tightened them & went on my merry way.

I stil think to this day someone sabotaged me at the show!

Some time ago I lost one exhaust tip hanger and bolt. 2 months later while getting gas I was approached by a guy that said that he saw the hanger bouncing by him while riding his motorcycle. He said come by his house and he would give it to me. I was most thankful that he had it and when I came by to pick it up he had a few people waiting to see the car. It was great meeting some new people and let his young son get behind the wheel. We started the car and his face was priceless.

Nothing yet but I'm bound to forget to tighten something!

When I was 17 I lost the front uni joint while doing 80kmh on a busy road.
Fortunately the tailshaft didnt dig into the road and flip the car.
I did have to replace the shaft though as it got caught  under my wheel and bent.
My GF's old man towed me home 20km with a rope.
That was scarier than losing the tailshaft in the first place.
Gotta love a '69

I lost the driver side wiper arm in the rain. Lucky nobody behind me! (Six lane highway) Slammed on the brakes and shot back, picked it up just before a wall of 20 cars from the stoplight were surging up to it! (I drove about 120 miles round trip 2 weeks later to get a good used set of wiper linkage off 69 Super Bee that was rusted in to the ground.)

I just lost all the fluid in my transmission this past weekend. Luckily I was able to get it back to my street before I lost all movement.

My uncle once lost the door on his 66 GTO.  He had prevously rolled it.  I wasn't there, but he told me that the girl he was driving was not impressed when he stopped, backed up, picked up the door and threw it in the back seat.  He said it sort of fell open and fell off, the back edge hit the road and then it fell offf completely.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Hadda 1987 Dodge Ram 50 (Mitsubishi) mini pickup. Hadda 340/727 On the back with the tailgate down. Bad idea.
Whole engine bent my tailgate in a "V" and landed in the middle of the highway. Me and my brother had to pick that thing up and reload it.

Shoulda seen people's faces as they went by with a puzzled look on their faces. One stopped and asked what happened. I replied: "Had this 340 in the truck. i guess it had too much power and when I stepped on it, it jumped out the truck"...

Spare tire out from under my 88 Chevy truck, cable rotted in half. Bounced 25 feet in the air, you guessed it, took out a Neon going the other way. Front hood, & rad., luckily the young girl wad not hurt. Looked in the rear view mirror saw it hit the car, up in the air, & all I could think of please not through the windshield. Took Pict's. of the tread marks going up the hood, she was shaken up, but pretty cool about it.

lock for the lugnuts, various wrenches over the years left on the inner fender, big bottle of brake fluid fell out of my 71 t&c wagon, almost left a rear caliper on the road going to work. And 1 ex girlfriend.

I lost a hub cap last summer didn't even notice until I got home.  This spring, I lost the front left CV joint when 300 yards from the shop to get it replaced, I was turning and actually saw a couple of the bearings roll by in front of me, couldn't help but laugh.  That was in my '05 Ram

After market air cleaner while driving my 68' and doing about 120mph on Guadalupe Canyon!  For those who don't know where Guadalupe Canyon is at, that is where the 68 Charger in the movie Bullitt was finally destroyed. :'(

On my first '69 Charger the previous owner had grafted a 71/72 style air grabber bubble onto the hood. He actually did a decent job of narrowing the recessed area where the turn signals are so the fiberglass bubble fit in between. He also worked the raised center portion of the hood at the front of the bubble to blend. What he DIDN'T do was use lock washers on the studs to keep the nuts from vibrating loose.   ::)

While accelerating to get onto a highway, I watched the scoop catch some air under the front, lift up & fly away.   :o  I mean really fly away. It went straight up & out of site, but then I saw it in the rear view mirror as it went to the right & land about 10 feet off the road into the grass.  I went to the next exit, did a u-turn & went back to get it. It didn't get damaged that bad & just had a crack on the front edge about 3 inches long.

I put it back on the car to cover the hole in the hood, found a couple of nuts in the tool box & was on my way. Well, later that day I went to meet my girlfriend. Girls not only make young guys do dumb shit, but they also make them forget things. Things like adding lock washers & more nuts to loose car parts. On my way out with her that night, the scoop flew off again.   ::)

This time I was on a quiet back road with no traffic so instead of making a couple of u-turns I threw it in reverse & backed up to get it. Before I got to where I had thought the scoop flew off I felt & heard "THUMP.......THUMP" under the car. Yes, the first thump was the back tire running over the scoop & breaking it, & the second thump was the front tire disintegrating the scoop. The only part that didn't sustain damage was the hinge.

I saved the hinge & still have it as a souvenier.   :smilielol:
