switching my 68 to power steering

Hi out there. I'm getting pretty tired with my manual steering.  I seem to remember that years ago, someone told me that the shaft would need to be changed.

Can anyone confirm that for me?

or you could just push the inner shaft back up inside the outer shaft and keep your column. Starting in 67, all columns were collapsible per Federal Mandate in case of accident. This way, the column will not impale the driver

It will take a bit of force to get the shaft to move
