I think more than 15.  Remember there are some of us who like the fastback Chargers quite well thank you.  That said though it is way high even for the cognoscenti, Ryan pegged it imo.

Why restore it?

Clean it up, get it running & just drive it.  :yesnod:

thats what i was thinking  :yesnod:   looks real good for an unrestored car  :yesnod: :coolgleamA:

I think there was a pretty nice Hemi 66 or 67 on another forum for about 16-18k without an engine some months ago? I think it didnt sell, they are not so popular and you cant get parts for them, for example quarters.

Im sure the OP does not mind im hijacking his thread since he wont come back to the forum  :2thumbs:

You just gotta find out what he means by "negotiable".  I'm sure it could be had for a reasonable price.  I would bet the owner feels he's been sitting on it long enough.  Does it look like the motors been repainted with Chrysler red instead of hemi orange?

bobs66440

It's not my favorite color and it does need a lot of work, like EVERYTHING. Definitely too much money, but I'm sure he would entertain offers. That would be a really cool car when done.  :2thumbs:

To all the guys who bash the 1st gens and say they aren't popular and don't bring the money; It's true they don't bring the money that the 2nd gens do, but as far as popularity goes, whenever I'm at a show or cruise-in with 2nd gens there, you will always see people around my car while they walk past the others. I constantly get compliments and positive comments.  :shruggy: The only negative comments I hear are from 2nd gen Charger owners.

bill440rt

I'm looking at this positively. That's a nice clean car to start with for a resto project. Especially a Hemi car.  :yesnod:
I do agree, $45K is a little steep. Will it need everything? Probably, especially after sitting for so long. But so does every car needing a "complete" restoration. Stuff is hard to find for 1st gen's, but it looks like that car is very complete & solid. Imagine finding a 2nd gen resto project with floors that look like that?  :drool5:

and the reality is that is costs about the same to restore a 318 car as a hemi car.

Ghoste

Not counting the powertrain part of the resto, of course. ;)

Now there is a good comparison, ask yourselfd what you would pay for that car with a 318 in it, then a 383, and then would you pay the differnce between either of those prices and the amount being asked here just to get into the Hemi club?  It sure looks to be a clean car from the pics though, it would be interesting to see what kind of legitimate offers it brings.

15K Tops. If it was a non Hemi, maybe 5k.
:smilielol: :smilielol: the motor is worth more than that   :slap: :slap: :slap:

Ghoste

Exactly.  Thats why I noted the part about wiw without the Hemi.  Looks to be a pretty solid starting point for a resto so how much extra would you pay for a Hemi carÉ

ACUDANUT

If it runs.. maybe...who would pay 15k for a non-running Hemi engine.

I dont see why you wouldnt  just put it back on the road and drive it as is  :Twocents:  .

As others have already stated, the first generation Charger is just not as popular (or valuable) as the second, or even third generation Chargers.   As the owner of both I have watched the value of the first generation Chargers go up, but so far they don't get the respect that perhaps they are due.  They have what many refer to as love it or hate it styling, and they were just too early for the racing stripes, spoilers, etc, that the second and third generation Chargers had with the musclecar wars.  Yes, it's a HEMI but it will never bring the same money that a later Hemi Charger will.  (Plus, you can't paint it orange and put big 01 numbers on the doors.....) *Ok, I guess you could as I've seen all sort of makes and models painted up as a General Lee..... :eyes:

I see enough missing stuff and warts that I would want to restore it.  Yes, it could be cleaned up to be much nicer looking than it is right now but unless you specifically WANT to drive a Hemi Charger as a `beater`, why would you not spend the moeny to make it right

My own personal take, on this condition of car as 'non-runner' and just enough elbow grease and money (tires, rebuild carbs, hoses, fuel system, etc.) to be a driver as 'runner':

motor - non-runner / runner / restored
318 - 2,500 / 4,000 / 8,000
383 - 5,000 / 6,000 / 14,000
440 - 6,000 / 8,000 / 20,000
Hemi - 15,000 / 20,000 / 50,000

Ghoste

I`m for sure not the expert but thats about what I would think too.

Sorry, Crack pipe price... I love folks that think just because it's a original 426 Hemi car it's worth damn near $50G, This car is not very desirable $15,000 TOPS!!

Unrestored '66 down the hill from me:  426 / 4spd / Dana.  60k or 80k miles (?)  Original everything that runs and drives, in REAL nice shape.  Yes, he is asking 50k and that is right where he should be starting...

Uhhhhhh no.  People don't walk past 2nd Gen's, that's physically impossible.  First Gen's need respect but let's not get delusional here; let's leave the bad science fiction writing to George Lucas...

I could see where a Marlin owner would compliment the Gen 1 Chargers.
