The debut of the car was just last week at Carlisle. From there they brought it up to Loring AFB for the land speed event sponsored by the Loring Timing Assoc (LTA). Gary took the first run. Remember this car had not been driven more than 10mph prior to this event... except for the chassis dyno work they performed the week prior to Carlisle.

Gary took it up to 5000 rpm (125 mph) to feel it out. All was good so he increased the rpm to 6000 (150). The car still felt good, so up to 7000 (175). At this point it felt just a little light, but nothing compared to the K&K's first runs so he mashed the pedal. There wasn't much runway left so the car was finally clocked at 181... followed by a chute drop. The chute pulled straight back, performing as planned. Between runs they made some aero changes. He took it for a second run, pushing it harder from the beginning and ran a 183. More aero changes were made in the pits.

Pam was up next and was interviewed by the announcer prior to her run. "Gary just ran a 183, how fast will you go? She replied, '184" Off she went and ran a 185. The following morning she ran again and up'd the 185 to 192.7mph. Gary's turn, and with taping up part of the grille ran 199.8 MPH. Remember this is just a 358 CI small block.

The rest of the day saw consistent 196-198 runs.

They'll bring the car to the Aerodyn/A2 wind tunnel in Mooresville, NC for some fine tuning of the aero package and will be back at Loring for the end of summer event hoping to run consistent 200+MPH runs.

Turn up the volume. The engine sounds KILLER! When the car passes the camera it still has another 1/2 mile to go.

Knowing nothing about these things, how do they get the MPH , with radar guns?
Is it the highest MPH in the run at a specific point, or an average over the run?

Without looking here... most speed record type events use timing lights set at a predetermined distance apart. Your time through the "zone" is calculated into an MPH figure. If they are using radar guns I'm guessing it's at a specific point in the track where the speeds are likely to be the highest.

A lot of B-52's have seen Loring AFB..  :2thumbs:  Loved loading the heck out of those babies with GP Bombs during the Storm..

 Troy, back in 1970 I was witness to what a B52 strike can do.  Three of them hit a hill one night and it looked like a volcano erupting and I would say it felt like it also.

Wow... It would have been cool to witness the product of my loading..   Maybe that was Operation Arc Light or Menu (if in Cambodia or Laos)
