Daytona strut rod bushings NOS vs originals

Mopar John and I have been discussing the strut rod bushings for a Daytona. I purchased a set of NOS ones for my car and thought I was good to go. However since then John sent me a pair of originals off of a Coronet built in June 69. These originals are much different than the NOS ones I bought. The parts book lists the same part numbers for all B bodies in 1969. I am posting photos of the originals on the left and the NOS ones on the right. As you can see there is a major size difference as well as a difference in the shape of them. Does anybody have any input as to what is correct?

Just looks like one is used, it's been compressed and worn deforming the original shape.  :scratchchin:

(gently) put the NOS one in a vise and see what it looks like at about the same height...

Tony couldn't get the rear half pictures he took to post? So I am going to give it a try. The part that has me puzzled is the even taper on the inside of the originals. I can understand the shape changing from being compressed but I don't get how that even taper would occur with the parts at an angle?

The lettering would also be compressed...

Apparently, production parts and 'nos' parts aren't always the same.
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

I'd be a little leary of using 40 + year old bushings, put them in my bird in 92 and six months later the right side went in pieces.Would you put N.O.S.redline tires on and drive it ? I know I sure wouldn't,now it you are going to haul it around on a trailer,go for it. :Twocents:

That's been well documented in the past that the assembly line items were often different parts from different suppliers than the over the counter parts sold at the dealers. ECS's last E body resto documented several examples of that.

I'll bet if you can find one, the vender code is different on the 2

Over the counter replacements versus assy line installs are rarely the exact same thing

Maybe we can get someone else with an original to post photos of it. Maybe there were different styles on the assembly line. :scratchchin:

Could also be a dealer part in 69 is different than one bought in 79, or 89, or 99, or 2009!

Many variables here...

Yes I saw those on ebay too. They are the same size and shape of the NOS ones I have. The only difference is the size of the numbers where the part number is molded into the back of the bushing. I wonder if someone could post photos of some more original ones that were on a car from day 1?

Bill,
Did you get a chance to dig out the originals from the 1968 Charger?

Tony dropped off my original pair and 2 of the newer NOS rears and there is no way they are the same!
I will use these as a guide as I hunt for the assembly line type.
