I have thought about posting a "whats it worth topic" in the future. Im hoping to make a purchase in or around December. I've worked and banked money for a long time and will be looking to purchase a 69 R/T with around 35k to 40k to spend. I am not a body man or some one who can take out a engine and put it back in. Im just a guy who has always wanted a 69 R/T. so im looking to purchase from someone who has a very nice car for a fair price. I wish I could build my own but I do not have the time nor the knowledge to build it. I'm looking to leave the car to my son after I have enjoyed it and I pass on. I will be a young 52 in September. This post makes me a little uneasy as I might be looked upon as someone who would be looking to flip a forum members car. I do not reply to many post but I am on this site every day and read almost every post. don't mean to sound defensive but i just wanted every one to know in advance. Thanks for all the good reads and great advice. I have learned so much from this site. Thanks again

I am in the same boat, but I want a 1968 and don't care whether its an R/T or matching numbers, etc. I want to buy it and keep it for the rest of my life (health and finances permitting). At the same time I don't want to get screwed by someone who tries to sell something "in perfect condition", "original survivor", "no rust", etc for a huge amount of money, hoping that inexperienced people like me will not be able to call their bluff. The very first car I tried to buy on Ebay was described as having a "perfectly straight rust/bondo free all-original body" but when I ordered an inspection, it turned out to have rust holes all over rear quarter panels and a trunk floor that was rusted out and fiber glassed over. All body panels ware wavy and paint was faded.

Also, the fact that the car I am looking it may be across the country makes the process even more painful, and so far advice from members on this forum has been PRICELESS. I stopped looking at at least 5 cars on eBay after reading what members of this forum had to say about it. So thank you everyone and I will keep reading and asking "Is this a good price?" questions.

Ek1 I was in that same boat. I looked at a lot of "roaches" and painted turds as I believe it was so put and this forum and group of people saved me a bunch of times. I was fortunate to find one 1600 miles away and with the help of a member I was able to make a purchase and get a beautiful machine I now call grace! Without this forum I'd be in way over my head. They are an amazing group of both knowledge and humor  I owe em all a lot!

Yup, I read your thread about getting the car end to end (awesome car BTW). Its hard to be patient and reasonable when it comes to a 1968 Charger but looks like its the only way to go. Hopefully my day will come sometime soon.

IT WILL HAPPEN!!!  Its hard to be patient but it will pay off! Im proof of that. Be patient as u can and keep asking for help. There are amazing people on this site. You won't be disappointed! Good luck! You'll get one!

I guess it's safe to assume that all of these "What is my (insert 2nd Gen Charger or Charger part here) worth" are just flippers testing the waters, then?  What's all of your guy's opinion on that?

My opinion is Flippers have ruined the hobby for those of us who actually do care about the cars themselves. As soon as they hear/read about someone telling someone else that Mopar brings the money, and with those STUPID shows like "Gas Monkey Garage" and such, they tend to think the Mopar guys will pay dearly. What I find hillarious is the fact that when they "Assume" they are gonna make a killing, then they find out the Chevy/Ford guys have more cash and most of the Mopar world is full of broke ass, Want it for nothing, people. Also, I find it funny that This Charger was "Too much" when being sold to him, yet as soon as he owns it, it's suddenly worth three prices more? Amazing how that works.


Flippers in my opinion are like when you were little and told to eat your vegetables BEFORE you got desert....Yet, your little Bro/Sis comes in and grabs the desert first and gets away with it. Flippers only come into a hobby when they want to make a quick buck...They no nothing about spending huge amounts of time restoring a car up late at night, out in the cold, and worrying about how they are gonna pay for all those parts they need for their ride.

Quoted for GOLD.  Truthfully, I don't even have a problem with flippers, just be HONEST about it.  Don't come in here acting like you actually give a s**t about these cars when you're just a slimy salesman trying to make a buck.  On that note, as an example for all of the flippers out there, please follow my lead:

Ok, I've got this Large sized soda cup from Carl's Jr.  The cup is straight, and the printing of the star has little wear and still shows brightly.  The white areas of the cup could use a good cleaning but this cup is a survivor from last week.  The bottom of the cup has no bleeding and it holds liquids perfectly.  It has a replacement lid that is hardly indistinguishable from the original lid,  but I had to add a 'repro straw that is shorter than the original.  If the lucky buyer wants, I can include the original paper wrapping of the straw.

This cup was recently appraised by a professional agency at about $30,000, which is also about the same number in the NADA system; I will be taking a loss on this fine, survivor cup (from last week) by starting the auction at $10K.  And, unlike all of the weenies on this forum that are posing like genuine members who care about the value of their classic Dodge Chargers, I'm going to be a man about this and tell you right off that I am looking to flip this survivor cup and make some money.  Please, no negative feedback bidders, and I have the right to cancel this auction or change it for whatever reason, at any time.  Delivery of the cup is entirely the responsibility of the buyer!  Sorry, but no international bids, or bidders outside of the continental 48 states!  Thanks for looking and good luck!

My opinion is if you already own a Charger you'd have to be completely retarded or living under a rock somewhere to not have any clue as to its value. I would guess at least 3/4 of the people who already own one and are doing WIW threads are just using deceit to get exposure on this site's main section. If you inherited a Charger three days ago, have no idea what you have, and your very first stop to do a value estimation was here, then I'd put you in the "living under a rock" category. Otherwise it's just a thinly veiled phishing trip IMO.

However, if you don't own a Charger, have just entered the hobby and are looking to buy one, heck yea, it makes sense to do a WIW thread on one you're eyeballing. But when you think about it, five minutes of research in "completed listings" on Ebay will provide as much or more value info than five days worth of waiting on replies here. Parts is another issue though because you might not have much of a reference point. WIW threads on whole Chargers though is pretty suspect IMO.

BTW, remember how much flack Cody got when he first came here for fibbing about his own website?

thats him!!!! I remember I PMed him how much he bought it for, he didnt tell me and I told him curious so I can guage what I should pay for in a 68 in such a nice condition as his. Now I understood why he didnt want to say since he wanted to flip it....

I would have taken the money and run. Not to bad to make $5100.00 on a deal, and all you had to do was take better pictures.  But maybe, those bids were not real, friends maybe bidding it up?
