Going to take a look today at an "unmolested " 68 today. Any words of wisdom before I go? I'll post pictures and results when I get back this afternoon!

If you can get pics of all the major rust areas:

Lower rear window, lower rear quarters, rear frame rails, rockers, torsion bar cross member, inside trunk, rear valance.  Grab a few of the interior and engine bay. Fender tag and VIN if you can.  Does it run? Turn it on and note gauges, lights, etc that don't work..

Can you take it for a spin? - Have someone follow you and see if it crabs. (rides sideways) Test the brakes, Sit in traffic and see how it does in the heat...

Are you interested in its #s?  Read here - http://andy440.com/other.htm

Lots of stuff.  Good luck   :2thumbs: and we love pics!!!   :popcrn:

Ok. So I went to look at it and here's what I have to report. Car isn't perfect but hey its 44 years old. The good news is this.....it's all original metal with very solid panels. From what I could tell everything is there. Only concern is he said it was an unmolested 383 original engine. if ya decode the vin it is supposed to be a 318. Few spots of surface rust and to holes in the trunk but rest of trunk is solid. Here is a few specs that I do know.

New hemi torque flight transmission.
Power steering. VERY LITTLE play in the steering. Drives very straight and right down the middle of the road.)
Power breaks. (Disc front)
AC works.

Rebuilt radiator
Electronic ignition
New carpet inside (seats need redone but are usable)
Rebuilt front end (ball joints, tie rods, idler arm pitman arm)
New shocks around
U joints replaced
New fuel sending unit and comes with a new gas tank
Correct side mirrors
Rebuilt heater core
New spark plug wires
Recent alternator and fan replacement
Replaced rest glass chrome trim

Car came from Arizona. It's got a few dents and bumps and bruises. Tail lamps all good.  All front plastic grill good  everything inside works except the clock, and the blinkers are iffy.  But the pictures can tell a better story then I can. Doors open and close smoothly. No slam. Trunk and hood open and close smoothly. Body lines are good. Look at the pictures and let me know what ya all think. Is it a good one or should I pass and move on?!?! 16k is the price I got him too.

how can you tell? I looked at the pics (untrained eye) and it looks pretty good to me. Interior is shot no biggie there, but exterior looks 'ok'? What price you thinking?

surface yes I see, but major?

Dang, I sure wish I could find a 69 in that kinda shape.  It looks like a good driver that you can work on while you drive it.  I like it!

Looking at pics, seems a tad high to me as well.
I just picked up a XP29G in Febuary for 8500. It had been sitting since 92 in backyard under a tarp. Of course the original engine and tranny were replaced wiht a 440/727, but all esle was there and the interior other than carpet, and one tear in drivers seat, was very good condition. It does need some patches on both lower quarters, and had small dent in fender. I had the 727 rebuit cleaned up engine and put nw carb on it, and drives pretty darn good.

BTW not trying to discourage you...it looks nice....and I talked the guy down a few thousand cuz he really wanted to get rid of it.....if you like it, that is all that matters....you have fun with it...it looks like a good driver, restore as you go type car, which is what I was looking for.

DadsCharger00

I certainly appreciate all the input. I don't know what I'll end up doing. Have a couple phone calls to make tomorrow on it. He was asking more then enough, but said 16. I figured I'd shoot him 14 and see what he says. Really I'm looking for a driver for my dad. I won't get my hands on it per say till my dad passes. The car is for him. Relive the golden years ya know. Just want him to have one to drive for awhile with my mom. I thought it was pretty nice but my eye is not trained for this. That's why I posted. Should I take the car somewhere have it looked at? Move on find another one?

cdr

its very hard to find a good driver for a good price,i would take it to a good mechanic & pay him to ck it out,i have seen some pretty nice 68s in the low 20s,this car is not even close to that, maybe 12 in this economy  :Twocents:
