Would you trust an NOS fuel filter?

Or for that matter any type of paper element filter that's about 45 years old? I see this kind of stuff on Ebay a lot and people buy them but I can't help but think you're asking for trouble if you actually use them as intended. Are they just for trailer queens or what?

Nope.

No more likely than if I found a gas can of gasoline from 1968.

Now if it's scotch from '68 .....  :coolgleamA:

Forty year old gas would probably burn a lot better than today's 6 month old gas.

You're probably right. I remember when they pulled that Fury up in Tulsa a few years ago that they found a 5 gallon can of gas in the trunk because the people that buried the car thought something else would have replaced gas by now. They figured that it was probably still good enough to run. Never did hear what the analysis actually found though.

My engine is worth a lot more than a piece of 40 yr old paper!  Hence the reason why I came up with the alternative oil filter project.

IMO, there are things that are certainly and with good cause, be bought "NOS", but anything that can deteriorate like filters(paper), rubber, plastic, etc. should only be purchased NOS, when considered for "Show" use only. Alot of times, Just because something's NOS doesn't mean it simply sat on that shelf for 50 years and no one needed/used it. It sat there waiting to be a warranty claim and wasn't ever returned becasue it was a new defective part.
