Picked up a wagon

So I want on a roadtrip and came back with a '76 coronet wagon!  Being in ohio I've always had rustbuckets but this car is nearly rust-free and original paint! I'm very excited to finally have something solid I can drive and enjoy.

Its a 360 2bl auto dual exuast with cherry bombs. Pretty original car. Runs good I drove 2 hours to get home @ 60-65 on the highway. But the thing that concerns me is when I popped the hood the next day I found the dist. cap was loose! Appears the 2 little hold down clamps came loose during the drive home...the rotor is bent and likewise the cap rotor contact point is also grinded down gnarly.

I started her up today and she sounded ok but wouldn't a loose (& possably crooked) cap cause the timing to be slightly off? Or at the very least put a extra strain on my primary ign. system and coil? Just wondering if it did any serious damage? Thanks for any advice

I know you guys like pictures so hopefully these work.

it wont change timing, but it will cause the ign coil to overheat

the hold down clips may need to be bent a little to add more arc or spring in them to keep the cap down. just replace the cap and rotor and you should be fine. nice wagon. :2thumbs:

Didn't come from Oregon did it? I remember one being for sale 3 or 4 years ago that looked like that one. Different hub caps though.
You saved it from demo derby.
Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....

Funny you say that because I found receits in the glove for repairs done in washington and oregon. Probably the same car! In ohio a wagon this nice is such a rarity so its great only driving two hours and getting a western car haha. Best $2700 I ever spent!

that car is really clean. well taken care of. :2thumbs:

So do you have your first cross country trip planned yet?  (because those things were the ultimate long haul vacation vehicles)

You could paint it white and make it the Hazzard County paddy wagon!!!
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

That is a beautiful wagon. Wagons are hard to come by to begin with, to find a old Dodge full size in that condition is the jackpot!

That is very, very cool. Since it's survived this long I would suggest leaving it looking just as it is  ;)

Thanks guys I'm pretty proud of it, came with the build sheet too score! It seems to be kinda a stripper with no roof rack or woodgrain sides, and no a/c. However it does have the third rear-facing seat. Seems kinda odd.  Anyway I had a blast driving it home very smooth ride. So now the important question: Cragers or leave the granny caps?

nvrbdn

hit a couple cruises or shows bone stock. then decide. see what the masses tell you. :2thumbs:

Leave it stock, that thing is rare and looks perfect. Of course I'm a wagon lover.
