Sure ,just be prepared for a lot of work or signing some big checks.
Wheelbase right off the bat will have to be extended.
Hemigeno has done one,he will have an insight on what is involved.
Judging by the photo's I've seen, a lot of race teams back then used a conventional cab series truck similar to the one pictured.

Ghoste

It would make a great one and if you want to see a finished version being used for just that purpose, a cousin of mine is has one that he modified into a car hauler just outside of Wallaceburg.

You aren't just mad cuz the hauler gets more attention than the Charger?

John_Kunkel

I almost bought an identical truck to make a hauler out of and then realized how high the bed would have to be to clear the tires and how long the loading ramps would need to be.

Decided on a traditional 1-ton with 16" wheels.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Not really, to be honest.  The 2-ton truck is much more a product of my own two hands (bodywork still by others) than the two '69s, it was just a difficult project.  Most everything on a medium-duty truck is unique to that series, and just try telling the guys down at the auto parts store what vehicle you have...

Me:  Um, yeah - I need a rebuilt water pump for a 1960 Dodge C500 Low Cab Forward with a Polysphere 318.

Bubba: (confused look)  You want whuuuuut??

Me:  Nevermind, I'd rather spend 6 months waiting for my original to be rebuilt at some obscure place I found in an old Hemmings backissue than fool myself for another second thinking any parts warehouse in the country has what I need.

Repeat that scenario for about a hundred different items, and fuhgettabout finding much of anything in new condition.  I did find a couple of items (this is going on 12 years ago now), but most everything that needs replaced comes from the FEW boneyards that have one of these; or you end up getting rather... errr... creative (shall we say).

Yep, most anything of that nature (2-ton & up) is going to have a 48" deck height unless you get really industrious and swap out axles/springs with a late-model low-profile setup... then the gearing for the truck would be way off base.  My '60 has a 48" deck height, but I solved the angle problem by using a rollback bed from Jerr-Dan.  It will winch my Charger R/T on perfectly and without using any ramps at all, but I cannot load the Daytona (forwards, anyway) with the winch due to nosecone & chin spoiler damage.  That would take a set of ramps, and I haven't worried about that just yet.

That is true.

If I remember correctly I was parked next to Geno in his truck waiting to get into the Nats a few years back.  I remember seeing a huge crowd around it and did not know what all the fuss was about.  I then looked for myself, the truck is sweet to say the least.

Dang, I thought you guys drove your cars. Hmmmm.

Why not put a 5th wheel on the truck and use it to pull a 5th wheel style trailer? Looks to me like you could install late model Cummins engine and maybe an Eaton or Allison transmission for pulling power.

Trailers limit mobility and, in my state, they have a lower speed limit.

Then move to a different state. I like the idea of having an enclosed trailer for several reasons. Security, safety, storeage, and peace of mind. I've driven roll backs and though you don't have the length of a trailer, they're tougher to turn in tight spots due to a longer wheel base, and they take alot of room to park just like a trailer. But, to each teir own.
