Anybody use one ?  I tried to fire up the 12-1 comp. 440 today and the battery cables got REAL hot so I must have a load of resistance somewhere  and it must be the starter. anybody have this problem ?

I have one from advance auto on my 10.2:1 440 with no problems. I have large cables and a big batery also.

Sounds like you need to go with heavier gauge wiring.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

I bought this 440 engine that is supposed to have 12-1 compression and it is in my 68 Charger with 'old" stock cables.  This thing is a rebuilt that I got on e-bay for about $60. so I might have gotten what I paid for.  I am thinking this starter doesn't have enough nut  to turn  this motor. Having said that I can turn the distributor from firing down the exhaust to popping out the carburetor  so I am pretty sure its not timing..  Open to ideas..

I bought a used mini at Carlisle last weekend when mine was clicking and making all kinds of nasty noises down there just in case I really needed something to get home.    There wasn't much chance in heck of me actually doing that in the heat and I managed to get home anyway.

I put it in the other day and it was a POS.    Luckily,  I took the original bad one back to autozone and they hooked me up with the lifetime warranty from when I got in in 2005!   FREE is good.  (  see 95 Dakota V6 starter ).

Now I can either use this lunk I got at carlisle for a core to get one for Sinnamon...   or E-booger told me on the phone yesterday that there's some rebuild kits on ebay.   I checked it out and there are some ranging from $10 to $25.   Another project for later.

I got my HD battery cables from Rick Keesler... aka:    rick@laysons    email rick@laysons.com    They kick azz!

I think its MSD that has one that is good to 17-1 compression for about $230. so that will probably be the next step.

check your ground connections .
, any resistance there will cause a lot of heat !!
