I know we all like the attention our cars get but....

I find myself getting tired of the fact that when I park somewhere or am getting gas, there is always some guy that walks up and wants to talk about every car he's ever owned.  Ect., ect..  Sometimes I just want to get on with what I doing and not spend 15 minutes talking about my/his/hers/Dad's/Mom's old cars.  Sorry, maybe I just need some time off.......

Yep. Be thankful other people still care and want to thank you for keeping an old car alive. They have fond memories of these cars too. Let them share a couple. You don't have to get pulled into a discussion but be nice. Be polite. And move on.

thats freaking hilarious.

I too have found that these cars bring people out of the woodwork. It does get annoying at times. However, i have to put myself in their shoes. If i wasn't lucky enough to own one, but saw one at the gas station filling up, i am sure i would be one of those that would walk up and start talking about them. I cut it short when i'm in a hurry, but sometimes it's interesting to hear some of the older guy's stories that had them before i came along. Unless they start rambling about their 72 camaro, which i have absolutely no interest in knowing about.. lol.. I will say that on more than one occasion these "gas station" people have led me to leads on where other cars are.. But back to your point, yes it does get tiresome at times. I usually fill my chargers up at night when there are less people around to be harrassed by..
i live in CHARGERLAND.. visitors welcome. 166 total, 7 still around

Yeah, I try and be nice too.  Sometimes it is annoying  but its better than arguing with the Pious driver who wants to have the "you know you're destroying the planet with that gas guzzler" debate.

bull

Don't stop anymore. ;D But seriously, maybe take a drive out to the country to some small gas station with no one around.

I didnt mind it at all when I had mine its a conversation piece and depending on how you control the converstaion you can get dates left and right...... :nana:

I don't mind those people but I'm tired of guys who had "one just like that, but with 440 Hemi"

I hate it when some guy in his 97 Grand Am pulls next to you at the pumps and he starts with the  "I use to have one of these, does yours have a 6 pack? mine had a six pack". Then when I tell him mine is all original with a 4 barrel he continues "mine was all original too but came factory with a 6 pack". I ask, was yours a 68?, oh ya he tells me, it was a 68 just like yours......before I get too deep into the conversation or he starts to tell me he also had the "factory shaker" or what ever other buzz words he has I try to get outta there.

HANDM

I just slouch real low, pull the hat down and pretend I'm on the phone..... Other than that I micht chat for a minute and let them "tell" me about my car(s)  :smilielol:

Brightyellow69rtse

i do get that but fortunatly for me i just naturally look like a tremendous douchebag haha. i think it keeps a fair amount of people from random conversations

Yea, I'm always polite.  If I was a rude SOB, the guy may have a key in his hand the next time he saw the car.  And yes, 99% of the people are great and I'm glad they enjoy the car.  It just seems that the last couple of times I've the car out it was a little over the top.  I did have one little boy the other day (about 8 or so) walk up to the window and just stare at me.  I said hi and he replied with "that's a really beautiful car you have there sir".  I said, "well thank you young man, do you know what it is?"  "No, but it's just beautiful".  Priceless!  Goes to show you that the design of these cars is timeless and you don't have to have memories of them to appreciate them....

I've had a few women come up to me and tell me that they used to date a guy that had a Charger. Then they comment on the roomy back seat. :2thumbs:

I've had more than a couple of people mention the fold down back seat and all their friends wanting to borrow thier car to take tothe drive in when they see the 67.

Moments like that are worth all the folks who want to be knowledgable about vintage rides but just aren't car people and grate on you. I feel good about being nice and respectful to people even the ones who fry my gizzard, that's just me. In another lifetime I was one of those asking question and drooling over fine iron.  :Twocents:

Yea, a 440 Hemi, I've heard that before as well. Well, when I owned a charger... I remember hearing, yea man, I had my charger up 160 mph just like it say's on the dash,  :slap: and the even funnier yep, I had a Chevelle just like that when they first came out! Really, dumba$$...and the most famous line I heard was look it's a DOH car! I would always say as nice as I possibly could, no IT"S not a DOH charger, I don't have a flag or an 01 on my charger! Nor were any of my chargers orange!
I hear what you're saying though, someone always has a comment about old muscle cars and yes, it can drive you bonkers I remember. Gees, now I'm one of those guys, I used to own a charger like that....ha
Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

Sometimes you expect some attention (don't get it) and find it very hard to deal with when you're ignored.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

When I was asked if mine was a Chevelle.  I just said, "Nope, its my baby." and left.

I restored a 1931 Model A Ford pick up back in the early 1970s and one afternoon I pulled into a gas station for fuel and some guy walks up, looks my pick up over and says "nice '29 A model."  I say thanks but it is a 1931 not a 1929.  So he walks up to the front of it and stares at the grill shell for a few seconds and says "its a '29, I know because I used to have one."  I assured him it was a 1931.  He got real mad and stomped off.

Another time a guy was looking it over and says " someone sure spent a lot of time making a pick up truck out of an A model coupe body."  So I tell him that it is a 1931 Ford Model A pick up and it is factory built.  He shoots back. "look buddy I was alive in 1931 and I KNOW Ford NEVER built a pick up truck in 1931."  I said they built about 500,000 Model A pick up trucks the last time I checked."  He also got mad and stomped off.
