A Boss 429 question

And I know it doesn't belong here but I figure the fastest way to get what is mostly a "settle a dspute" question answered is here where there are a few members who are Boss 9 fans.   All I want to know is the weight of a Boss 429 connecting rod.  Someone told me they weigh just over 3 pounds each.  Is this true?  That seems like an enormous amount of weight to spin around a crank at NASCAR speeds.

I don't know what it weighs, but when I heard John Craft's race Boss 429 in his Spoiler II; when he shut it off, it was like an airplane engine spinning down.

This lists them at 1,145 grams (2.83 pounds) each.

That's the 'S' engine with 1/2" rod bolts. The 'T' (3/8" bolts) is lighter at around 800 grams.

Also:

The NASCAR connecting rods (# C9AX-B) used 1/2" bolts with 12-point aircraft style nuts.

These racing rods also feature an oil passage from the big end, up through the beam, to oil the wrist pin bushing. Spray from this bushing was intended to cool the underside of the piston crowns, but instead cured another problem with the early engines, excessive wrist pin wear. This passage is not simply drilled through a normal rod. A special forging is used, with a bulge along the side of the beam to house the drilling.

A guy on HAMB got some originals:

The 426 rods weigh 1150.4 grams

So, about the same for the race versions with 1/2" rod bolts.

It looks like after market forged street Hemi rods are about 900 grams or less.
