So 4 months of searching, calling, emails and dealing with all sorts of drama, scams, b.s., dead ends, false starts... finally found a charger I liked and it was local, about 30miles away.

medium blue/white/white 440 true RT, single owner car (seller's father-in-law purchased it new in Cali), no accidents, all original including all panels are factory, never had major rust, matching engine+trans and interior, original glass all around, fender tag, not looked for build sheet yet. one half decent repaint about 5yrs ago (removed vinyl top then), and then it just sat around after elderly owner suffered a stroke. Runs and drives, idles great, brakes are mush, dash/console needs work (tach, speedo doesnt work, other gauges are fine), ac car but its out, doesnt click into park sometimes only starts in neutral, electrical/wiring issues turn signals etc etc but the AM Radio/speakers works! She needs a lot of work, but im looking forward to it.

I drove it home 30 miles the longest its driven in years, a little scary with sluggish brakes. Brakes bite when the cars moving, but sluggish when driving slow... didnt overheat... but after i turned it off near my driveway, it wouldnt fire back up when engines hot.

Bad coil? im hoping it starts up tomorrow.  :shruggy:

More pics to follow. Pics taken at the sellers house before leaving.

Was it a craigslist find ?

Yep craigslist. Seller did'nt want insane money for it either... which was the big surprise!

i had a mustang, 70 fastback that ran great. all of a sudden it would quit. as soon as it cooled, it would fire up and run perfect. turned out to be the coil would seperate when hot. then i had a newer car with the electric fuel pump. this was wild, but you could start the car in the morning and drive anywhere. as long or far as you wanted to go and it ran perfect. but if you shut it off, it took hours before it would start. you could go cross country as long as you didnt shut it off. changed the main brain and all. it turned out to be the fuel pump.as soon as i changed it, problem fixed. but that has nothing to do with an old mechanical pump car.  :shruggy:

Sweet!  An unmolested car with one paint job, just like mine!  Those are the fun ones, the cars that have been 'worked on' give me headaches.  That's a very nice starter.

As far as I know, all 1970 Chargers sold in California have the N95 option on Fender tag. The N95 is ECS (evaporative control system) or California emmisions. This consist of a special gas tank that has 4 seperate little tanks ontop of the tank & then runs 4 lines into a special tube mounted in right side upper trunk. Also consist of a special carb with extra breather tube on top of carb that connects to a special 3 nipple breather mounted on pass side valve cover. I did not see any of this on your car. Did the Trunk rust out for it to get replaced? Don't get me wrong, no insult intended, it's a nice car. I love 70 R/T's. LEON.

none taken i appreciate the insight, it helps. i will confirm these details. i might have assumed where his father-in-law lived based on what i took away from my conversation with the seller.

Ha ha I love the Gatorade bottle in the engine compartment-being used as an overflow bottle, I presume?  Lol the other day at the body shop I found a COKE CAN in the heat/air box under the dash!  Love your car though, what a solid start.  Asides from the reliability issues you could drive that thing as a survivor and it would be totally cool!

hatersaurusrex

Yeah some of us are starting with much much less; that car has about the same problems as a 10 year old car has now, and it's 42 years old.  Knock the dust off of it, get the carb fixed, swap the brakes and please, for the love of God, drive the wheels off of that (at least for a while).  What a nice find!

A few of my friends just found out I got this thing last night at a party... had a frenzy of offers to come help work on it  Im aiming to have it "ready" and drivable by CPW Fall Fling here in SoCal. It'll be my first mopar event with a car.

I was noting how great the condition is also.  Was this car garaged?  I mean look at the interior and the bottom of the car for Pete's sake...

Congrat's on the Charger pick-up   It's amazing what is still local.  I've heard an old saying that whatever you want is in a 50 mile radius of where you live!!  I'm not 100% sure of that, but it seems to have worked for you.  Have fun with the car :2thumbs:

No clue if it was garaged. It spent a fair bit of time sitting in his back driveway under a cover. The upper interior door panels are cracking and looks like they PO tried to use a vinyl repair kit to fix his aging armrests in the driver side. The seats front, rear are in good shape, floormats and carpet in great shape.

Spent the afternoon trying to find the buildsheet, didnt find it. at least i have the original tag (safely kept inside my house), after i found out people like to steal  these things!
