Hey guys, I have an idea for my car I want to try. I put new quarters on it and now i cannot see what lies beneath the dutchman panel. Does anyone out there have a picture of car while that was removed? Quarters can be gone too, I just need to see what if under the dutchman. Any help would be great, I tried to look thru a lot of resto's but never saw what Im looking for

The dutchman re-inforcement panel under the actual dutchman panel is hollow inside except 2 tabs that are spot welded one towards the front middle and back middle.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Here's a couple of mine (in case you don't have enough).

Did three years of the Gen-II have the dutchman reinforcement panel?   I remember looking into the trunk on my 68 and seeing the panel for the first time,  wondering "what purpose does that panel serve?" It seem to be doing nothing... Well now I know.

ok now i am curious as to know what that box was used for, it looks like a plenum , or just a big waste of sheet metal , can some one tell me please, i gues this whould be the box for a rear window defogger , any pics of this installation, or am i wrong

Wondering the same... what the hell is that box for, haha

I wish I could help with the purpose of that panel, maybe helped panel placement during assembly? or just reinforcement?

Sorry I missed that earlier question about my plan. The rear window section of our cars creates a terrible vacuum at speeds, slowing down the car and causing a lot a drag. This was addressed with the Charger 500's rear window plug but even a fastback car creates a fair amount of drag. The gen II with its flat surfaces back there create the perfect area for improvement there. I want to put some vents for ducting in the sail panels and dutchman panel. That will aerodynamically make the rear end of my car disappear letting me go faster with less drag and more efficiency.

Interesting idea.  But I don't think it would work unless you were getting the extracted air from the right place.

The fender scoop holes on the wing cars were letting the pressure out from underneath the hood.  That worked beneficially because the engine bay was open on the bottom.  But letting off the air pressure at the rear window by just cutting venting into the trunk area of the car (if that's what you had in mind) would not have the same effect.

I've always thought the factory C500/Daytona rear window plug was a clumsy way to handle the problem.  Over the years I've thought about a few different ways to treat the problem with less visual change and less hacking up the trunk opening.

I helped cut the dutchman out of Sinnamon a few months back.    That was replaced before the old quarters were cut off.

I am not going to simply cut holes in the dutchman or sail panels then expect it to work. I want all of the air to come from the front splitter area. Front brakes will get ducting of their own. More ducting will run under the car on the outside of the frame rail connectors to the back where one (per side) will go to the rear brakes, the other to the vents.
