I'm running the old Kendall oil so unless someone tells me other wise I'm going to drain it, install a wix filer and fill it up with Brad Penn 20w50.  Sound good for a near stock 440 that sees a lot of street miles?

to me the only reason to buy 20-50 is to get the zinc content , otherwise if you can get a 10-30 or 10-40 with the high Zddp I would use that , Z Alt has a 10-30 w oil

Dino

As far as I can tell, all the Brad Penn grade 1 oils have the high zinc content so I can just as easily get 10w30 or 40.  I guess 20w50 is a bit on the thick side considering I do drive it late in the season where morning temps can be around or below freezing.

If I have to pick one should I stick with 10w30 or better to go 10w40?

Just changed my oil. I use the K&N Oil Filter HP-3001 and Valvoline VR-1 10w-30 Racing Oil for the Zinc. I order them from Amazon.com and I keep a stock of oil and filters on the shelf for "the boys" ('68 Charger and '68 Road Runner.)

I generally use the 10-40 but 10-30 would be fine

Wow Valvoline VR1 is $62 a case. I pay $56 a case for Brad Penn 20w-50 and thought that was high.

I can't even find BP for that price!

Okay so I did a search again and found I can pretty much run anything be it 10w30, 10w40 or 20w50 in a daily driver.  I guess I'll use 10w40 since it'll work well in summer and should also work well in the cold.  I don't think I would notice any difference in performance between the viscosities in a daily cruiser anyway so if it's good for the engine it's good for me!

Now, I have a purple cam so that's flat tapped right?  Do I need a zinc additive even if I use Brad Penn grade 1 or Valvoline VR1?
