Remove rear window regulators

Ok, dont start making fun of me but I cant seem to get the rear window regulators out.

They obviously dont go trough the square hole in the bottom of the inner quarter. I tried to get them out from the top but it gets stuck ervery way I try.
Do I need to pull them further apart or what am I missing here?

Yes the glass is out and so are the upper pads and all of the other misc parts.

when i done the resto on  mine ,
i took one look at the set up & thought ! no way am i going to remember all this , in 3 or 4 years time   , (before digital cameras were all the rage too ) so what i done was assemble each side on thick cardboard ,  so  its like its actually in the car in correct location  , draw round all the bolts before you remove &  number them & do the same to the assembled winders on the cardboard

I am in the same process right now. I have already given up today to try to figure out a better way. I cannot get a very good picture down in there. I wonder if the factory installed them before they welded the quarters on.

I took mine out but I am replacing both full quarters and I will install them before the quarters go back on. I have a feeling they were installed before the quarter panels.

What would be a good paint to look close to galvanize to use?
