Charger500

Hello everyone,

I finally decoded my vin plate and have found out that one of the options for my 70' 500 was a green vinyl top. The car is going to be dark green metallic almost a black and was thinking of putting a black vinyl top on it till now. Are green vinyl top rare...? Anyone have any pitures of them on a car...? What do you think I should do...? Thanks!

Go with the green.  Though as you can see I'm a little biased.  Could it be your green top was also in the gator grain?  Worth checking into though I'm not sure that was an option for '70.  I would definately say a green top was rare.

The Gatorgrain was an option and I would put the green top on.  imo

Vinyl top = cool!

Green vinyl top = super cool!

You don't see vinyl tops on cars these days, especially green vinyl tops.  A sign of the times.

go for the green and the gator very cool

terrible one

I remember Stormhammer from the old board was once selling a '72 w/ gator top.

I think the green 2nd gen tops are fairly prevalent and available. I got mine no problems from Legendary 6 years ago.

As for green overall, the color was very popular in the late 60s and early 70s, it sold well and so there are a lot of them.

And...Dan thanks for posting a picture of 3X.

No such thing.
V1G Gator grain was only offered in one color. (a brown black mix) I've seen in in black sometimes but everyone I've talked to say that it didn't come this way. Most think that the black ones have just lost it's brown coloring in the aging process.

The only Tops offered in  a green color with a texture other than the normal texture was a V1Y Tortoise Grain.

I've seen pictures of a white car, think it was a 68 ???, with a green top and green interior, I thought it was way cool for you don't see that color combo much......green BB stripe on it would be cool too on a R/T or even a base model.........anybody have any pictures ??? could have been a 69, not sure, think it was advertised maybe on ebay or collector car as a white hat special :icon_smile_approve:

I'm not sure if you're registered yet, but we have 62 registered cars coded for a green top (V1F) so far. I would go original if it was my car, but that's just me.

Come check us out.   www.1970chargerregistry.com

When i finally got my 68, it still had some remnants of a green top stuck to it and a good sized piece of it in the trunk from a previous removal.  It may be original ,as everything on the car is green. But i havent decoded the tag yet, but its just a base model. My hope is to go green again but a very dark green, almost black. As another member mentioned in a reply to this post. Still trying to figure out how to put pics on here.
