A couple of years ago my Viper was stolen and recovered partially stripped, this is when I found out that Hagerty is just a broker, the actual underwriter is who you wind up dealing with in case of a claim.

In my case the underwriter is Encompass (Allstate) and, after a few unpleasantries, the claim was settled to my satisfaction. To their credit they renewed my policy, many will cancel you after a claim.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thats good to know that Allstate is behind it,the autobody industry has had their conflicts with Allstate in the past.

I had an accident a few years back,I was driving my Charger convertible(,that I build by reskinning a Satelite) And a car locked up its brakes in front of me! When you don't drive these cars everyday anymore, you can forget how much room is needed to stop them! Especially if you drive these new cars with ABS/four wheel disc brakes! I wacked the nose on my car,and had to replace 3/4 of the nose! They went off in the ambulance, even though I didn't really hit them that hard! I had 100,000/300,000 liability, and that handled their part of the claim! I called them about the damage to the Charger, and they were very helpful, and professional! They told me to get an estimate, and if the Damage was less than $3000 then to send the estimate, along with a good set of photographs of the damage, and they would process the claim. They said if the damage was more than $3000,then thay would have to send a claims adjuster to look at the car! They processed my claim, which was $2700,and I got the check a few weeks later! I repaired the car myself, I do all my own work,I didn't tell them that, but they didn't ask either(you know that don't ask don't tell thing!)My rate never went up,and that was 5 years ago. Their customer service reps called me a few times to ask me if I was happy with the way my claim was handled, and they sent me a questioneer to fill out and return, which I did gladly! For me they were excellent to deal with!

Does your car have to be garaged and only driven under a certain number of miles a year?

I can't remember the exact number, or if there even is one, but they aren't jerks about it. Here's what they say in general: Flexible Usage. Drivers can enjoy their classics with comfortable limits. Our policy allows for an occasional leisure drive, not just to parades or car events. http://hagerty.com/Auto/vehicle_features.aspx

I was told 2,500 miles per year.

I have antique tags here in Illinois and I believe it is restricted to 2500 miles parades, showes, weekends, and to and from service and or inspection.

As far as I know there is no mileage limit. I just renewed my policy and there was no mileage verifying questions like my last company did every year. I think the limits referred to are for the "type" of use. This insurance is not intended for an everyday use type of vehcile. If you check the frequently asked questions the car needs to be stored in a secured garage and you must have another vehicle for daily use.

I don't know if they will tell you "no" if you don't have a garage, but they did ask me.  I do think that may be a big factor in it.

My last Charger had a mileage limit of around 6000 yr. (their words and they NEVER checked it) with no restrictions on usage, I could go get a gallon of milk if I wanted to, all they said was to please use common sense. A few years back I had a medium sized claim and they were absolutely great about it. I have tried others in the past and they were all a pain in the A** about everything. So, in a nut shell I guess I do recommend them highly, good luck.

It is negotiable as to whether it has to be in a garage and locked up. I know of one member on this site (I won't name him just in case) who has his car under a carport but his reasoning to them was that he lives on a quiet, dead-end road and parks at least one driver behind his Charger so it's not easily accessable. Hagerty went for it. I think as long as there are circumstances or some measures taken to secure the car more than you would a driver they will negotiate. I like that about them, they aren't militant about their policy requirements. But I do know they don't want you drag racing. :nono:

I had tried to insure my car with them in 04, as this was the first year it was finished.  I was keeping my car in one of those "instant"/temporary garages, you know, the Cover It tent things. When it came time to fill out the paper work I was honest about not having it in a locked garage. However I did take pictures of the Cover It tent, which was in my back yard, sorrounded by 6 ft stockade fence on three sides and a 6 ft locked chained link gate on the fourth side.  They said this was unacceptable. I guess they had alot of claims for that type of shelter, maybe from snow collapsing it or tree damage, because that car was as secure as if it were in a locked garage. Anyway, it forced my hand to build a garage. 25k later I've got a big ass 3 car garage and Hagerty insurance. I guess all in all I'm better off for it  but it was scary to drive for that first year with just liability. I can say thier rates a very reasonable and as I recall I had no mileage limit, which was an issue since I drive my car alot (6,000-8,000 a year). They did say that they didn't want the car to be used in the daily commute and things of that nature.

The other thing Haggerty offers is insuring of newer cars that are considered "collectible". My friend has a '99 Trans Am convertible on his and my dad has a '02 Mustang GT on his Haggerty policy. The same rules apply on storage and use of course.

I had a windshield claim a few years ago and no problems.  New windshield fully 100% covered.

I applied to for coverage before I had a garage and they said that they would not cover it unless it was garaged.  In 2000 I moved to my current location with a garage and no problem getting coverage.  My Charger and Grand National are covered by Hagerty.

A friend has a Challenger TA insured and got caught on some construction gravel on the way back from a meet.  He got a bunch of chips on the front.  They paid for a complete show car paint job.

my quote was a shade high, but I assume it's my age (23).  I still plan on going with them based on the positive remarks!

I have my own saying about "any" insurance company....

"They are the first to offer you an umbrella but, the minute it starts raining...They want their umbrella back."

Needless to say, in the real world you have to have it and they know it.

The company I had, really left a bad taste in my mouth and I have ended up taking them to court to take care of my daughters medical bills. (she was the front seat passanger) I guess its okay for a car to be going close to 85 mph in a posted 40 zone and T-bone another car and it will still be that cars fault for crossing the road.

This was according to witnesses who also said the car changed lanes because it was going too fast to stay in it's own. So, no fault to the idiot driver.

Anyway, The Wife's car was a total loss and my Daughter ended up in a coma and is still going through therapy from head injuries. I paid 32 K for the Wife's car at the end of 2000. Since then she had only put 31,000 miles on it and never ever really got on it. It was a Z-28 fully loaded and it had the L-89 Corvette engine in it. The only thing it did not have was the leather interior and the SS hood. Our kind and generous insurance company gave us a check for 14 K and and stated that it was all the car was worth. I couldn't find even a similar one for less than $19,500.00

To add further insult, they said we only had 25,000.00 injury coverage for our Daughter (passenger) and that's when the gloves came off!  That didn't even cover her ER services or her first night in intensive care. So, It's in court.

Oh and gee...Guess what? After six years and no claims... They dropped us before I could even speak to an Attorney about the medical bills. I got my notice with the check for the car.

im sorry to hear of your mis-fortune!  I think alot of insurance companys have that track record.  I hope your court battle ends to your favor!
