Hi can anyone tell me how or how hard is it to do a matte pearl white paint job.thinking I may want my 68 charger done this way! Opinions?

Probably not that hard if you know how to shoot 3 stage pearl. Just lay some flat/matte clear on it instead of gloss clear.
Hardest part is making sure your spray conditions are C-L-E-A-N because you can sand/buff it when you're done. Also, if you get a piece of dirt on it before applying the clear it will stick out like a sore thumb against the white basecoat.

Bottom line is if you can do it with a gloss clear, you can do it with a flat clear just make sure your spraying conditions are hospital-grade clean.

I have never heard of doing a pearl in a matte finish?!? I would not think you would get the pearl effect due to the matte finish of the clear???
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

The inside of my car is a low gloss (10 sheen) pearl white. Mixed the pearl into low sheen clear and shot over the white.

Yup that is the new finish of choice for the Big Baller crowd in the new Mercedes Benz's, BMW's etc....NO shine!   Personally I think its :puke:

I dont think a mat pearl would work, the finish depth is missing, mat white on the other hand would work but i think it would dirty up pretty quick and show any oil or cleaning product smear. You might be better using a satin or mat clear over white, that might hold up better.

Just a thought

Are we back to the satin fad again?  Funny how it keeps coming back.  Anyway, do what Bill says.  You'll still get a pearl effect but not nearly as much as before.  How smooth you can lay down the clear will be crucial to maximize the effect.  Driving in the rain helps as well.   :icon_smile_big:
